Get in

By plane

The town is served by Aguenar-Hadj Bey Akhamok Airport (IATA: TMR), often just referred to as Tamanrasset Airport. It's located 7 km northwest of city centre. There is one international route, with Paris-Orly. Domestic routes connects with most larger cities in Algeria.

By road

National road A1 from Algiers passes by Tamanrasset continuing until the border with Niger. However, after Ghardaia in central Algeria the quality of the road deteriorates, although it's still paved. This road is also known as the Trans-Sahara Highway. To the south the road becomes almost impassable to ordinary 2WD vehicles.

There are relatively few hotels around town, however camping is common and you'll find several camping sites across the city. Also, out in the desert it's easy to bivouac under the sky, a true million-star hotel.
