Hualien County is to the north with many highways and a railway.
Kaohsiung is to the west. However, the Southern Cross-Island Highway ( Provincial Highway Number 20) is closed mid-way since 2009-08-08 due to the Typhoon Morakot , so you have to take a very long detour via the South-Link Highway ( Provincial Highway Number 9) if going by road.
Pingtung County is also to the west via the South-Link Highway and the South-Link Railway.
