Jakarta/West

West Jakarta is part of the Old Batavia and is home to Jakarta's Chinatown, called the Glodok area. Glodok is more of electronic promenade of Jakarta, however is rich in street hawker food and Chinese cuisine restaurant as well as old Chinese temples complexes. There are a lot of shopping going on in this area as well, as it is home to Mall Taman Anggrek and cheap shopping lanes at Mangga Dua. This area is also home to Jakarta's biggest nightlife entertainment and red light district quarter Mangga Besar.

By bus

Multiple Transjakarta lines traverse through this area. Line 1 goes from the heart of Jakarta to the Old City. Line 3 goes from Pasar Baru at Central Jakarta to Kalideres bus terminal. Line 9 follows the Inner Ring Road from both North and South Jakarta.

Get around

By public transit

Multiple Transjakarta lines traverse through the area, especially around the Old City, Harmoni and Grogol. Line 9 follows the Inner Ring Road, Line 3 goes to Kalideres along Daan Mogot Avenue, Line 8 travels through the heart of the area into Lebak Bulus at South Jakarta.

The former Stadhuis (Town Hall) of Batavia, the seat and office of the Governor General of VOC. The building now serves as Jakarta History Museum (Museum Fatahillah).

Old City

The Old City, despite situated up north, is actually administratively divided by North Jakarta and West Jakarta, with the latter occupying more attractions, especially the center of its attraction, the Fatahillah square. Most leisure visitors coming to Jakarta start their trip here to see what Jakarta has to offer.

A unique scene exists in West Jakarta compared to its counterparts. While malls are typical, the West features most of Jakarta's shopping strip, from street vendors to a long strip of multiple malls joined by skybridges.
