- Ledges State Park (4 mi S of Boone). A popular park centered around a wooded canyon with sandstone bluffs rising above a tributary of the Des Moines River. A winding one-way road (which regularly closes due to flooding) runs through the canyon, crossing the stream at several points. The park features 13 miles of hiking trails along with fishing and canoeing on the Des Monies River, 95 campsites, and some lovely picnic spots.
