Anxi is a county in Quanzhou Prefecture, the center of an agricultural area well known for tea.



The area produces an oolong tea called tie guan yin. This was the tea that American colonists threw into Boston harbour to protest British taxes during the American Revolution. Guan Yin is a Buddhist Goddess of Mercy and tie means "iron".
