How to Write With a Feather Quill

Feather quills were used many times over the years. They were used by poets and writers and are still used today. This article will show you how to write with your own feather quill.

    Choose your ink. Calligraphy ink is a good type of ink. India ink is too thick and sticky and won't flow as freely.

    Hold the quill at 45 degrees, as you would a fountain pen. This makes your writing easier and looking more like calligraphy.

    Test out your quill and ink on white printer paper. You may use more textured papers as you become more experienced.

    Once you get used to writing with a feather quill, you may write or draw with it. Do not ever forget to rinse your tip with water every time you finish using it.

Tips

  • If you do not wish to keep buying ink, use it only for something extra-special.

  • Using a steel nib will make your quill last, but you need to dip the quill in ink every few words.

  • Always wash your nib lest it should corrode.
