Hi, before I go back and revert the changes: I'd like to know why you thought it better to remove my link to Bidstrup's site, which gave a concrete example of what people can do to reduce their own carbon footprint, and changed the wording on my other link from something immediately useful to something obscure. If you're working for one of these companies selling "offsets" I understand, but otherwise it doesn't make sense. Thanks -- jc

Hi, thanks for accepting my apology. I was referring to the article on "Buy a Carbon Offset". I had mistakenly thought you had deleted my links, then later realized it was Jack who had done it. I've since talked things out with Jack and added back the links. Thanks again -- jc

Hi, Melodie. Just wanted to let you know why I rolled back the changes to How to use Commas. After some discussion with Krystle (see the Comma discussion page), I changed any and everything that might be construed as copied from Warringer's Engligh Grammar and Composition, which I relied upon as a referrence. The changes weren't superfluous. Thanks for keeping an eye out! -- Darth_Pipe

Congratulations on Becoming a wikiHow Author Congratulations! You have made your first handful of edits on wikiHow and are now a co-author of our shared how-to manual. Of the millions of people who read wikiHow every month, very few overcome their initial fear of participation to make it this far. I, and the other volunteer editors here hope you will continue editing and help us fulfill our mission of building a complete, high quality, multilingual how-to manual. Again, congratulations on becoming a wikiHow author!

There is a big difference between school policy and a violation of universal law. Violations of other organizations policies is not the responsibility of wikiHow. As long as it is no a violation of Law in most countries then it is not considered a violation of the wikiHow deletion policy. The seduction of a teacher is legally no different then any other person, unless it is specific to minors. This article clearly could by applied to a University or College environment where all parties are adults.

Is this the place to ask why you rolled back my addition to "Choose a Cell Phone Service"? It was my first contribution to WikiHow, but I've been a reader for months. The smackback without any explanation stinks--especially since my point regards a way by which cell phone providers tack on additional charges.

Our goal is to get all teenage subculture articles fixed to perfection and to help kids fit in with a certain group. It's a universal truth that teens want to fit in - as does everyone else. Many people are contributing to wikiHow through articles that teach how to fit into a specific "group" (e.g. Goth, Prep, Punk). While there is no need to expel such articles, we can always do more to improve their standards.

Well, Mighty Mouse. I would really appreciate it if you could tell me what abusive behavior I have been exibiting. Because, frankly, I don't think I've broken any rules. And if I have, then you guys are WAY too strict. This is a PEOPLE'S how-to manual, now for some "strange" reason, I come to the conclusion that PEOPLE should be allowed to post the articles of their choice. I can respect that you and the board of administrators are trying to keep wikihow.com a clean and sensible place. I can only imagine what kinds of articles there would be on here if there was NO set of guidlines and rules. But it only seems fair that there should be some leniency, in that we should be given a just reason for why our articles do not fit the quota.
I look forward to your reply. -Me

Hey Melodie! I wasn't aware of the copyedit tag. I think someone put it up there solely in reference to the apostrophe issue. I don't remember apostrophe usage being country-specific; do you remember when this thread came up? I'm usually pretty good about keeping up with the forums but I might've missed this one. Anyway, I check out the apostrophe entry on Wikipedia and it says:
While British English formerly endorsed the use of such apostrophes after numbers and dates, this usage has now largely been superseded....For groups of years, the apostrophe at the end cannot be regarded as necessary, since there is no possibility of misreading. For this reason, most authorities prefer 1960s to 1960's...
Please share if you know otherwise. Also, the tag is in no way a comment on how much time you invested into the article. Here at wikiHow, no article is ever finished. There will always been people seeking to build upon and improve, and sometimes others can see room for improvement where the previous contributor didn't. That's a good thing, because it keeps articles improving over time. =)
At 22:37, Dec 17, 2007
Krystle said:
I'm sorry, did I say that I believe Wikipedia has the answer to everything? I didn't mean to imply that. I was just sharing the knowledge I had immediate access to, and asked you if you could reciprocate with knowledge you had access to, with no presumption that Wikipedia's was any better or worse than yours.
Perhaps the contributor who added the tag did not happen to notice that you'd made a significant contribution to the article? It's not customary to check page history before adding a tag. I'm sorry if the tag made you feel like your significant contribution was any less significant. I don't believe that was the contributor's intention, but I prefer to assume good faith. =)
Finally, I'm sorry if I misinterpreted your concern. Removal of tags is something that those who are possessive of their contributions often do, so I may have misjudged your intentions based on past experience. If so, I apologize.
Let me know if there's anything I can do to help. My hope was to pay a compliment, and address your concern about the tag; I'm sorry if my attempt to help was misinterpreted negatively.

Ah, are you referring to my brief conversation with Rob S. about the placement of the apostrophe? If so, please let me explain. I was asking Rob because he's written several articles about punctuation on wikiHow, and he's more familiar with wikiHow's historical punctuation standards than anyone I know. I also wanted to brush up on my own punctuation skills, so I turned to someone who I already knew was keen on punctuation usage. If I knew you were a stickler for punctuation, I would've asked you, but I wasn't aware. It was an innocent question about proper punctuation usage, and it was his idea and his choice to apply a tag - I didn't suggest it in any way. I was just curious. That being said, I'm sorry if you felt excluded; perhaps I should've left my inquiry on the discussion page, and let anyone answer who felt qualified to do so. That's certainly how I'll handle it next time. Thanks for understanding, and explaining your concerns. I really do appreciate it. =)
