Hi Maverick 97/archive1. Thank you for starting a new article on wikiHow!

I noticed that a title you started (How to Make a Newspaper) is very similar to a title we already have. It looks like they might be duplicates! On wikiHow, we consider two articles to be duplicates when their titles are practically interchangeable (even if the content is different). When we find a duplicate, we then work to make make sure all the information ends up consolidated on one page, typically the one with the simpler, more commonly searched title. That way, our readers can find everything about that particular topic in one place.

If you agree that the title you started is a duplicate, you can help by adding your how-to advice to the other page. The duplicate page will eventually get redirected to the other page, and we don't want to lose all the great information you provided. If you don't think your article is actually a duplicate, feel free to leave a note on the discussion page (which you can find here) explaining why, and let me know, too. Sometimes we make mistakes, and we definitely don't want to merge it if it is different!

If you have any questions or need help with anything, just reply to this message. Thanks again for contributing!

Thanks for bringing life into wikiHow...
Congratulations on Becoming a wikiHow Author Congratulations! You have made your first handful of edits on wikiHow and are now a co-author of our shared how-to manual. Of the millions of people who read wikiHow every month, very few overcome their initial fear of participation to make it this far. I, and the other volunteer editors here hope you will continue editing and help us fulfill our mission of building a complete, high quality, multilingual how-to manual. Again, congratulations on becoming a wikiHow author!

Thanks for starting a wikiHow article! I was wondering, would you be able to add step-by-step pictures to the article? Here's a guide, if you're interested:

How to Take Photos for wikiHow

Once you're ready to upload them, just look for the "Add Image to Steps" button. If you need help or run into any problems, take a look at the instructions here or ask me. I'll be happy to lend a hand!

If you're not inclined to add photos yourself, hopefully the tag I left on the article will catch the attention of one of our community's photographers. Either way, thanks for sharing your know-how with us!

Thank you for your kind words. I read your user page and discovered you want to become a journalist. I became a journalist by accident and then spent 10 years or so (took time off to raise my family) meeting deadlines. I loved reporting but I don't miss the hours. I am now retired and enjoy spending my days at WH.

Good luck on your future career.

BTW, the fruit salad recipe sounded sooooo yummy and healthy too. Can't wait to give it a try.

Not much to edit as you did a nice job. The NAB I am sure will edit something, that's the way writing is, but your work was right on.

I did add a photo for you, feel free to change it, if you like.

Also, I noticed you are a promising photographer. That's a good thing as most small newspapers now have journalists doing both writing and photography. Money is tight.

Most journalists start at small newspapers and move onward to larger newspapers, from what I understand. I have always worked at a small newspaper as my husband's job required I stay in the same location.

I started out writing obituaries and features. I later moved onto police reporting and finally ended my career as a governmental affairs reporter. I also did environmental and military affairs reporting along with this.

I was a working reporter on Sept. 11. In fact, I ended up putting my daughter to work in the newsroom (she gathered news copy from the broadcast media) as they closed her school down.

Ah the memories...

Regarding: http://www.wikihow.com/Image:Budgie_319.jpg Hey there,

Just wanted to let you know that unfortunately, I had to remove an image that you have uploaded. Here's some general advice about images that may be of assistance:

  • Copyrighted images (most commonly found through Google Images, blogs, etc) cannot be used without explicit written permission from the original owner. These include video captures from YouTube or other videos uploaded to the internet. Please make sure to upload only images that you either created yourself (with a phone, webcam, or your own camera) or can confirm the license for.
  • If you wish to use a copyrighted image on wikiHow, you must obtain explicit written permission from the original owner before uploading it here.
  • Stock photography, even when purchased, cannot be uploaded to wikiHow due to the sublicensing terms applied. You can read more about it through http://www.wikihow.com/wikiHow:Image-Licensing-Guidelines
  • To find freely licensed images to share on wikiHow, you can check out How to Import Freely Licensed Images Into wikiHow.
  • If you have seen an image that is already on wikiHow (such as in an article) and you would like to use it, rather than re-uploading it, please click on the image to go to its image page. On the bottom of the picture, you will see a wikitext code that you are more welcome to use.

If you have any questions about images or need assistance to determine whether an image is copyrighted, please don't hesitate to contact me by clicking on the "Reply to Maluniu" link below.

While I am glad you found images for your article, it would have been courteous to let me know you were looking for such things. When an in use tag is in place, it means someone is working on the article. I was busy searching for photos, after you requested my help, so it would have been nice, if you let me know that you didn't need help after all.

Also, an in use tag means that other writers are to leave the article alone until the tag is removed.

I know you are new, and didn't know any better, so hopefully you will remember what the in use tag means.

That's all I ever used plus my camera. I worked long ago, back when they still used typesetters and terminals, so there were no Blackberries or the like. A good journalist needs few tools and the most important tool is the willing to mentally ask questions. Always keep an open mind, and a good eye, and the stories will find you. I once was training a cub reporter, who claimed there were no stories available. I took the cub reporter out for a drive and found at least 10 stories in a 1 mile radius. I had the cub reporter write down the story ideas in their notebook as we took our drive.

I always kept a small notebook handy to write down story ideas. I later would drag out the notebook and start working on stories, if I had a slow news day.

On a funny note, I was covering on of my biggest stories, one that broke nationwide (not bad for a small town reporter), and I watched all the "big time" reporters run to their computers to send their copy off to their news desks.

I wrote my stuff down in my trusty steno note pad and drove to my office where I wrote my copy.

Enough chat for today.

If you can correct your name on the Barnstar that would be great. Your name is now in red which means the link isn't working.

I am deeply touched as a Barnstar is a significant and rarely given award.

I did move your suggestion about practice to the tips section and expanded on the Sharpie ink.

I did nothing to your writing as it was excellent. I am sure your article will be edited but that's the writing life.

I am so glad you are back as you are a shining star at wikiHow.

Just wanted to say that I nominated your article Draw-a-Cartoon-Monkey as fac. You are really talented and the steps/pics are clearly explained. Well done! :D

Hi, to link to a wikiHow article, you don't have to put the URL in, you can just do it like [ [Make Popcorn|Popcorn] ], without the spaces in the middle of the brackets. Try it.

Hi, I have noticed that you have been editing your user page quite often. Is it okay to start using the "Preview" button? This minimizes actions on RC patrol, thanks.
