Sounds like you have gotten much further with the UIBs than I have....I knew there was a problem with lining up, but I never was able to figure out why. So you have found that some have an extra space? Sounds like you are well on the way to a fix.

I know of no shortcuts or tricks for this. But maybe what you should do is choose a UIB with a picture and make your fix on that one. Then you can click on the picture part of the UIB and find a list of those who have this displayed on their pages. You can then look at a few pages and see if your fix is creating problems for people who have used these particular boxes. After this spot check, you will be in a better position to decide whether it is a good idea to fix them all.

I believe that you can test the non pictorial UIBs too, if you need to......just substitute a pic for the text in the left hand box and that ought to turn up all the users of that particular template. I have never tried this, but it seems to me that this should work.

Ah, I see. I think you might be confusing broken spambots for something else, because the name can be a bit misleading.

"Broken spambots" are basically bots that act kind of wierd. They'll make edits that are:

  • Almost no change (basically, the half of the edits you saw)
  • Erase text after "&" symbols
  • Mess up text with an % in it
  • Create pages with urls in the title, such as "How to http://www.wikihow.comDo Something" that have almost no content.

More information can be found here.

Ms. Wade, thanks for asking, I have given thought to this suggested topic myself, and here are some ideas I have. I would use 3/4 plywood to construct the frame, about 30" by 52", with a seat built 3/8" plywood, a "rail" to support a bicycle pedal assembly that would enclose the chain drive, and a steering built with either a wheel, shaft, and cam linkage to the front wheels. Your idea of using a riding lawnmower frame has a lot of advantages, and the weight would be comparable, so the only problem might be the availability of the discarded mower and the possibility of having to do some welding and cutting torch work(?) If you don't mind, I may see if I can sketch the wood version and email it to you. I never have had any luck converting .bmp images to .jpegs, but then, my level of computer literacy is pathetically lacking. I will give the subject some thought, and get back to you. Bob

Hi, LW, hope you had a great holiday! I haven't forgotten the commitment to work on the pedal car project, but the weather here in the sunshine state was rotten this past weekend. I found an old pedal car with rear wheel steering, a verticle wheel and pulleys turning a centermounted pivoting rear axle and front pulling wheels, so if I can rework it, it would be an easier project for DIYers, thought I would see what you think? Are we on the same page as for the age range of the user? I am thinking between 4 and 8 YO, and the nice thing about the rear wheel steer is it can turn on a dime, so if it is done right, it could be driven indoors...just not in my house. Take care, Bob

None of these link opens, so they will have to be deleted.

Hi Loiswade42! I hope you havent given up on the pedal car project. I had hoped to build a prototype using an old one for a pattern, but the factory made parts are not something that can be duplicated in a DYI project, which is what I would prefer, since otherwise, someone would be better off with a kit. Anyway, if I can find some common, easy to find wheels, or decide to fabricate wheels from wood (like Fred Flintstone's car) I am set to start. I have a couple of holiday projects started, but I made room for this one, too. Anyway, hope you are not too disappointed with the LACK of progress, next two weeks I will be on a 110 mile each way commute, and that tends to slow me down more. Take care, Bob

Lois, I am so very happy that I had been helpful in your learning how to do your own copyediting from now on. That however does not mean that articles you start, will not continue to be edited by others including me.

It is important to remember that in a wiki All articles can and will be edited by many, and we just have to learn that once we write an article, we let it go for others to edit and make changes to. In a wiki, no one can claim ownership to any article, and that is what makes a wiki so great. Each article gets edited by so many people, and each add to it, until it becomes a great article, and at times not even recognized as what it had started out to be.

And while I was glad to hear your suggestion and concern about my well being, please know that I am always well rested, and always feel good about life, so nothing went awry, as you put it because of anything remotely related to what you mentioned. I was merely editing as usual, and tagging as I felt needed, while also offering a bit of helpful instruction as I went along, feeling that you might appreciate it.

Your contributions have been great, and certainly added immensely to the wikiHow library . Keep up the great work..
