Hi! Just checked out the Unicef page.

I assume we can just adapt the Unicef Facts for Life material and wikify it? Not that I've read through it, but I just wanted to make sure of the licensing etc. -- I assume it's public domain though.

Also, about developing content on breastfeeding -- don't know if you've thought of this -- but I was thinking maybe it'd be a good idea to get in contact with the La Leche League. They'd probably donate some articles or maybe it would be a way to get "hobbyists" (for lack of a better term) to start writing for wikiHow.

Flickerty,

Thanks so much for the crib sheet. I will copy and paste it and save it for later use. I am one of those who folks who has to have the printed directions right next to me.

Again, thank you!

The page looks soooo much better, soooo professional, and sooo good after you edited it.

Also, thank you for the nice comments about Tribble. My daughter took a photo of him looking cute last night. We've had him about six years and he was born on Oct. 8, 2000. We picked him up from his breeder New Year's Day. I'd love to have a Russian Blue (round head like the Australian Russian Blues) as they are the BEST cats. I had a Russian Blue mix cat when I was a teen.

I am also owned by Andy, a brown tabby domestic short hair; and Tails (no I didn't name him the kids did) who is a black fluffy cat. I am allergic to cats, especially long haired cats, but he found himself a good home here. LOL!

Have a good day!

I managed to weave the internal links but I can not get the PDF file to link externally. The link is: http://lancaster.unl.edu/food/turkeytrim.pdf

No rush but when you get a chance could you take a gander at the article and let me know what I can do right LOL!

Hi! Flickerty,

Tell me what you want for science articles and I will start doing the research. If I am stumped, I can always get hubby to help as he is an engineer. Deals with science on on a daily practical basis.

One idea tho...and my daughter can help write this...is something about the hobby of shortwave radio listening. We already have an article here about that subject, so we could polish it up. What do you think?

Hey there - I need your help! D Rae, Bennelliot and I are working on the LGBT articles on wikiHow, cleaning them up and editing where needed. We're like the Gay Patrol. ;) One thing we really want to do, and Jack has cleared us to do it, is to re-name the entire category from GLBT to LGBT. LGBT is the way the gay community actually refers to it most often, probably as a result of the LOGO network on cable TV. Whatever, I think for the sake of the hetero community it's probably best to bring all of the articles into alignment. I mean, the gay people will totally know what it means, either way, but the straight people could become confused. Would you be able to help with that?

The second thing is there are a few articles in need of name changes. One is "Accept That Someone Close to You Is Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual or Transgender". We'd like to change this to "Accept that Someone Close To You is Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual or Transgender." It just helps the uninitiated connect the dots a little easier, I think.

If we are able to change the category name, I think D Rae and Benn and I may be able to fix things from there. There seemed to be only one article with the old way in the title, and i think Jack has that one to change.

Thanks for your help!

Yes, I do know about all caps = shouting on the net as I have been on the net since 1994. As soon as my little town got net service I logged on. LOL! I wanted to make it perfectly clear for food safety reasons. Italics are fine too.

As to degree symbols, reporters using the AP Stylebook are taught to spell out the word degree. Not use symbols. Either way is fine for me, but sometimes it's awfully hard to learn new ways. Will keep trying though.

I've completed today's NFDs with all of those dated through 10/20 (6 days). I see 5 days as being be too short for deletions, but probably long enough for saves if consensus. What's your opinion on it? The time frame seems sort of a gray area, and I've seen articles deleted within a couple of days if the consensus was there and the reason was just.

Any ways, I did see one article titled How to Get Revenge, where the NFD is tagged for 10/26 that was at the top of that category listing. It looks like all of the other articles there are properly sorted. Any ideas why that article is not correctly sorted?

Hi,
I have a question, I have been talking with some of the leaders from the wWP and we have come up with a possible idea, (possible as in..now idea how we could implement it into what we want)
Lois has set up a list (personal) with all the requests and dates. And this allows him to go through and write them or remove each old dated one as it gets older and older, (rather than having to search each time). Is it able to be implemented into wikiHow, i'm not sure how, but perhaps some thing like the Patrol Count?
I will need to ask a few of the technical people behind the scene's, but i thought i'd ask you as your pretty clued up with what works and what doesn't.

We really have no wedding articles about this...WDYT

and then cover the receptions...or add a bit of the receptions along with the traditions.

I just remembered I had posted a message on the forums about a technical idea, and you had replied so i thought id reply.
Basically I have been discussing with other wWP leaders about how they monitor there categories. Another leader and I do similar plans, and we thought, the information is within wikiHow, we just need to unlock it and organise it. That is why I posted the message, but it seems no one technical has replied. If there was a way to sort the Requests by date, like the Recent Changes. This way, we can monitor new requests, and either NFD them if they duplicate from a current article, or suggest them to be written if they are excellent ideas. or write them ourselves. This will also allow us to monitor when stale dated suggestions are really old, and not as useful as they use may have been. Or if wikiHow has a new article written which is the request in a whole. I'm not sure if i've made much sense, i'm a bit all over the place lately...it's been a month of ups and downs!

Thank you for your ideas and questions.

    • In the Requests, when you click onto one, to view it on it's own away from the others. It has name and who suggested it, and what date it was suggested. All the data is there, such as Date suggested or requested etc.
    • The front page of requests is sorted in date answered and suggested. However, when you click into a sub category, e.g. Pets or Teenagers, they are in alphabetical order. The Recent changes list allows you to view the Recent Changes in a personalized way. e.g. My RC list is oldest first with Patrolled edits hidden. Making it easier for me to see what edits need to be patrolled and by patrolling the oldest edits. By making somehow, the Request list be able to be sorted in a way that a leader of the wWP can sort them by date to get the oldest requests and clean them up by either removing them or writing them. And the newest ones can be researched within wikiHow, to make sure that they have not been written already.
    • The comment about stale dating is great. And actually reflects my ideas. By stale dating requests, I mean e.g. If it was requested in 2005, and is an old perceived question. I'm not sure of an example, but it may mean, that the request is suited for that year. As you said with the Australia Day one. About the Violin, we would keep these one's, as they are timeless as you said. Also, when someone stale dates a request, KiS is often removing them or Deleting them, and if she doesn't think they should be removed she doesn't...I don't think anyway...(don't quote me).
    • What I meant to say was, that when a new article is suggested, often the person requesting it has not researched within wikiHow to see if it has already been written. Or if there is an article that is written which means exactly the same thing. Also, yes, some people request an article and include the actual article in there. By monitoring the new articles, we can fix this problem.

Yeah, the ups and downs are getting better. A friend our mine recently lost a 5 week old foal to the EI, and we had a memorial service, very sad and i've been a little upset for a while, as we have a 3 week old foal who is not yet showing signs, i'm just worried, as his mum has it. Also, its been raining for about 4 days, and this weather causes the EI to spread. Plus I lost one of my best chickens and a few baby ones. Not a good month. But it's getting better.
I like the ideas you and Travis have been doing. It may be good for the wWP but i'll have to look into it.
At the moment, im trying to figure out what i'm after in terms of the dating and listing of the Requests. Its great that you have brought up these issues of clarity, as i wouldn't have picked them up until much much later.
Thanks, Amy

There are a few reasons why I think the picture sequence is unsuitable... firstly, look at the first few pictures... a human hand is present. normally in a motion sequence, it is absent. secondly, the changes made to the Lego wa too small to be observed by the audience reading. Well enough of that! I was looking at some suggestions for articles that people wanted and I have a few in mind that I would like to write. I do have a question I need answered before I begin! When is it acceptable to put a link to download software or to a page that offers a service such as converting media types? Part to the "HOW TO" is to use software or services from of these links. Here are a couple of examples of article that I feel might need a link: 'How to Convert Video or Image Files for Free' and 'Capture FLV Streaming Internet Video from Websites Protected by http Protocol'. I have read the WikiHow External Link Policy but because I am fairly new to the WikiHow world, I just wanted to make sure that what I am doing is OK. Hello again I just wanted to know if perhaps you may change the title of my article to How To Repair Oxidized Cloudy Headlights With A Headlight Cleaner......It is very important that we have the word "headlight cleaner" as it is the number one term for headlight restoration amongst the search engines. Being in the business we have found people use the term "headlight cleaner" as just a generic term for something to clean the headlights not just a particular product. I would greatly appreciate it, thanks again for all of your help. If you are able to change it to that title I know it will receive a lot of views and incoming traffic to this great site.

Too bad they don't ship to Canada...

My reason for becoming a vegetarian was to save the animals, among other things. I don't really care if it looks and tastes like meat, as long as no animals were killed for it.

You have your own reasons, so your opinions will be different from mine.

Thanks for the input about the origami swan/crane article. I tagged if for merging in September but more recently, when I was actually merging, I skipped over this one because I wasn't sure about the validity of the merge. When in doubt, I pass and wait for more input from the community, so I'm glad you spoke up. It was exactly the kind of feedback I needed. I'll go ahead and remove the merge tag (this wouldn't be the first time I've removed a merge tag that I myself placed!). Thanks for letting me know!

P.S. - I did end up placing an accuracy tag on the article, since several comments in the discussion indicate that the instructions are not really for a swan. I'm not sure how that affects its potential as an OLPC article, so I just thought I'd let you know. If you think there isn't much of an accuracy issue at all, feel free to take off the tag. =)

In terms of folding, they outline the same origami pattern, which I've been making since I was 8 or so and have always recognized as an origami "crane." The origami swan article is currently showing how to make what is generally recognized as a crane; what really should be there is info on how to make a true origami swan as shown here. Either way, merging is definitely not an option because the titles are distinct, whether or not the content is. Hopefully the accuracy issues can be resolved without erasing anyone's hard work!

Thank you very much. Yes I have been busy working hard on this project and wanted to share the information online so that people can see how to tackle this task.

It was quite difficult but I hope I made it easier for people now.

Hi, Flickety, I have no clue what I did to deserve it, but I love the picture, so thanks a lot!!! I don't hunt, but I have a food plot for deer, and "stealth cams" to "shoot" the visitors, so I really do love the picture! Bob
