Secondly, you've done a good job of rolling back spam lately, but now that you are an admin you can now add sites to the spam blacklist. Usually, when I see wikispam, I block the user as well. Here's more information on dealing with wikispam http://www.wikihow.com/Block-Wikispam-on-wikiHow .

Hey..congrats on the adminship.

You can usually just put the domain on the block list, especially with things like lotsoringtones.ws, porno4all.com and pretty much everything that ends in .info, as they have zero potential to be sites we'd ever want linked on wikiHow.

We are nice to blogspot.com, and list those only as stupidspammerhost.blogspot.com, since we have so many legit blogspot.com links on the site. We haven't been so nice to other blog hosts and web hosting companies, as they have been slow to take down crud sites.

Just wanted to remind you that when you do a page move, don't forget that on the move page you don't need to add the 'How to' portion, its added by the software automatically to the title. It looks like "How to How to DO Something" If we add it there :)

Were you aware of the fact that the help team, is made of up of editors and administrators?

This team was created after a lengthy forum posting,by jack himself....we used to advise newbies to contact Admin for help, but it was decided that anyone, editors alike, can offer help, so he created this team, and removed the 'ask an admin' for help

It was an interesting discussion, to say the least, but at least it made another yet, important change on wikiHow...little by little, changes are made, but that is how wiki becomes better..

Yes, I did complain, and it was Nichole Willson that was the one who mentioned, that there was no difference between admins and edits, and it should not be mentioned...and thus it went down the line, and finally was changed..Jack approved of it, and reworded it...Every welcome page now has it on there, and no mention at all anymore of contacting an Admin for help.....Some have a little barb on it, unless perhaps one needs a title change.

I did not mean downplayed, wrong word. I meant that no longer is Admin distinguished as such a great job, its in the What is an Admin, page.

and it is working. because now all are integrated on the help team.....admins as well as editors....

In the process, I found three articles linking back to the original article, which was then called Change Windows Time into your name.

Yes, I thought that I had improved one of them. I recall adding that cute little rock.

I think I am going to revert that one to the one that was a good one.

I think however, that the author is bombarding too many, adding the same ones with different titles and creating them as real pets....

Your "rude" answer appreciated! The problem is that if I email my page to someone else (from the page itself), that email gives a link to a blank page. Weird (and frustrating).

Can I change my user name and drop the period without losing my entire history and the other links? My dear husband Eric (a computer consultant) says that he has noticed this elsewhere, and he suspects that Internet addresses ending with a period (or a "full stop," for you Brits!), have trouble displaying if linked from an email message; at least some (if not most) email programs drop that terminating period. It seems to be a bigger problem than just here.

Hi, Dave, I've come up with a forced fix for my "Ellen Etc." user name problem. I just created a user page for "Ellen Etc" without the full stop, and I'll use that for future articles. But I don't want to delete the "Ellen Etc." page either, and lose all the links and discussion. Does this seem like a workable plan?

My husband Eric found that if the page link http://www.wikihow.com/User:Ellen-Etc. is sent in brackets, the full stop at the end comes through OK, but a permanent fix would require a change to the entire email system, which I don't expect.

Hi, Dave, If you have time to explain one more thing to me ... Sondra was trying to help me avoid editing collisions, but I don't understand what she's saying. I get the part about watching for a green editing tag, but then she says to check if an article is "on the top" -- of what? Is she talking about the list of articles I've worked on? Do they go to the top of my list when they've been recently edited (by anybody, not just me)? Any other tips on avoiding editing collisions would also be appreciated. The reason that I nominated that Supreme Rune Knights page for speedy is because it's just a person that is advertising for Runescape players to join their "guild", or group of players, on the article. It has no information that is relevant to the Runescape [the game], itself, and is therefore useless.

Understand that Runescape is an MMORPG, or massively multiplayer online RPG [similar to World of Warcraft and Everquest]. There are hundreds of similar, individual "guilds" in the game, and this is merely one of them. I came to this conclusion from the separate hyperlink that leads to the website for this guild.

I don't believe that this article can be saved, only because there are so many separate guilds in the game. This could be argued to be a vanity page, as well.

I know .......I am very curious about that image and have tried it a few times. I have left the box up because I hope to be able to make that functional later. I have a few ideas to check......

Hi, and Happy New Year! I had a question... actually two. 1. How do you decorate, or color your talk page? Check out "Horses4ever"'s talk page. It's full of horses, and pictures of her. I don't need images of anything, just a background color. That would be nice. Do you have any idea, or do you at least know of someone that could help do this? 2. I heard from someone that when your talk page begins to get too long, messages are deleted. They say you need to make "archives" or extra "hold pages". Can you, or someone else you know of assist me in doing this? I'm afraid I might not be able to read all of the messages on my talk page.

I made 4 more archives to make sure none of my messages get deleted. If you are afraid of my replies being deleted, you can reduce the chance of this problem happening by replying and sending me messages on my archive talk pages. This message will be sent to others, so you don't have to worry about telling everyone.

I think what I am suggesting is a change from simply checking out previous problems and taking action.......I am saying that we ought to have greater latitude in how we deal with those previous problems----but only in cases of malicious (as opposed to mischievous or mistake edits).

Yes. I have been removing all edits, good or bad, by these malicious vandals. The good are never very good, though, Dave........the best I have seen so far from these vandals is a brand new silly stub article which duplicates an existing topic and is written in all caps, or is full of all kinds of spelling errors and typos. I have been using the "remove all edits by malicious vandal" clause to go right ahead and delete any such silly stub right off the system. That is what I want license to do.

You make a very good point and I will keep that in mind.

However, I guess the best way to discuss this is via actual example rather than via hypotheticals. So I will make a note next time I feel motivated to do this and check your thoughts then. I think you would have agreed with those that I have done so far, but would like to know your thoughts in the future.

What is the latest on copyvios and author attributions? This seems to be contributed by the author who wrote it, so that is good, but I suppose you will verify. My problem comes in the attribution which the author leaves on the page. If they are supposed to leave author info, and if this author info when left violates our exlinks policy, what do we do?

OK. Cool. Hold off on deleting any more redirects for a bit. I think it might be creating some other problems. Let me investigate and get back to you. Till then, if you see a double redirect like that just redirect it to the new target page. Does that make sense?

I have always had an interest in the occult and I remembered reading about how the Ouija works. And thought it would make a good article since so many young people seem to be interested in it, or are afraid of it.

I wrote it in my own words but from what I remember of what I read. I don't understand why this cannot be allowed. Are we not writing about our knowledge and experiences... And where do we get them from? From things we have learned, read, and picked up on the net. I have read many, many books in my time. Are we not simply passing on what we have learned from books?

I believe it is only plagiarism when you take it word for word and put your name to it claiming it as yours.

If the article is causing a problem, delete it. But I wrote it... from MY memory not from a web article.

Yes, weHow does not share their content with anyone.

That said, we need to be careful on tagging things that appear on weHow as copyvio. It is possible that the same author who wrote it on weHow also writes it on wikiHow. THat is legal, since the weHow author has the copyright. And it is possible that whomever wrote it on weHow just copied it from wikiHow.  :)

Well, the one he sent to me (I think) was for Admin to place on the talkpages - It was different than the Block template in that it specified the ip/user was a Spammer/Spambot vs. a vandal.

Well, at least the spam seems to come in waves. Like right now, it's fairly quiet. It would be nice to block blogspot, but I do understand why we don't.  :)

I recently tried to add external links to my site about rabbit care to a couple of the pet rabbit articles. I linked to the specific articles relating to the topic on hand because I thought it was helpful. I read your guidelines on adding external links, and I'm not quite sure why you deleted the links I added. Also, I noticed that another link that you did not delete on the Litter Training Your House Rabbit goes to a site about Viagra. I don't see why that link was not deleted, but my relevant link was. Can you explain?

Actually, those pictures created a lot of problem for me, as they were sometimes altering the Text Structure, and at times appeared at some strange place, where I did not want them to. If you see the Page History of that article, you would notice a lot of edits, though it was completed last night (here in Southern Asian Region). Me, and Josh fixed that Images problem. I think I should revise the Writer's Guide, and wikimarkup lesson at Forums.
