Hi Carolyn Nice to meet you i'm rodney ilive in Australia I notice you've been editing a couple of my articles one on the Holy spirit and one on baptism I was wondering if you have experienced baptism and Holy spirit the way it is described in the articles That is Baptism is being submerged in water (not sprinkling or pouring) when a person is old enough to understand what they are doing (not a baby) And receiving or being baptised in the Holy Spirit means having the same experience as the disciples and Mary (Jesus' mother) did on the day of pentecost They experienced the power of God (Acts1;8) and they spoke in tongues (a language they had not learnt) If not i pray that you desire to have this experience which Jesus wanted everyone to have Yours Rod

At 07:43, Feb 12, 2010

Rod-GoodwinRod Goodwin said:

Hi Carolyn Thanks for replying so quickly

If you've read the article on Baptism you will see that the Bible asks for belief(Mark16;16) or Repentance (Acts2;38)and teaching (Matthew28;20)must happen before baptism which babies are not capable of.

So while this may be a baptism which the catholic church reccomends the baptism of babies is not mentioned or reccomended by the bible so therefore it has no validation in the bible and is not true baptism

Even the word baptism means to submerge in water So if your not baptised the bible way you cannot claim to have the Bible benefits such as dieing to sin and being born again

I don't write this in spite but in the hope that you will consider doing things the bible way not just in the traditions of a man made religous organisation and then you can enjoy the wonderful blessings of being truly born again

At 22:29, Feb 12, 2010

Rod-GoodwinRod Goodwin said:

Hi Carolyn I agree that the so called Protestant churches are fragmented and most follow traditions of men when Jesus talked about being born again He said to be born of the water (Baptism) and be Born of the Spirit Being born of the Spirit is what happened on the day of Pentecost and is the way people today get born or baptised of the Spirit because Jesus won't change(Hebrews13;8) for any denomination Catholic, protestant or other.

You said you don't really believe in the "tongues' but Jesus said "beleivers would speak in tongues" So why not believe what He said and ask God to give you the Holy Spirit (See Luke11;13) which Jesus also said to do.

Then you will have the same miraculous experience that the disciples had and then you will know what it really means to be born again You will experience the power that Jesus promised (Acts1;8) It's wonderful and Jesus wants you and everyone to have it Dare any of us say No thanks Jesus I'm OK as I am

Yours Rod

Hi Carolyn Although the tongues in Acts2 was understood as speaking the wonderful works of God their purpose and signifigance was not understood which is why Peter had to stand up and explain in the common language what it meant

He told us that "ihis was it" (refering to the question about tongues) the Spirit promised by the prophet Joel

The pouring out of the Holy Spirit which he added in verse 33 you now see and here

If you read my article How to appreciate speaking in tongues you will see that there are and always have been many uses and reasonns God gave us speaking in tongues however preaching the gospel was not one of them Carolyn this is still that spoken by the prophet Joel

Jesus died and rose again so that everyone could have this same Spirit which raised Jesus from the dead Please don't reject what He has done for you Yours Rodney

I added this step about Baptism...

It did have two mentions of baptism but something like this was needed, thanks.

The article was not originally Be Born Again it was Be Wise (Christianity) but Melwade didn't like that title because the article was not clear enough to tell the reader how to be wise... like "impossible".

So, I requested it to be changed to the one it is now since there was not an article with that title... and the wise material was mostly about believing and winning souls. "He that wins souls is wise." (Proverbs 11:30)

I probably should remove some of the extra info... to simplify it.

Hi Carolyn Tongues isn't mentioned in this verse however it is in Mark16

15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.

This is very simple disciples were to preach the Gospel then the Lord would confirm/prove the word spoken with the signs which include casting out devils (our old false ideas and philosophys) and speaking in new tongues (a prayer language 1 Corinthians14;2) If God doesn't confirm the word spoken with signs then its because it was the wrong/false word spoken

Jesus said to receive Him you must receive Him that Jesus sent That is the Holy Spirit

Acts1;8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Spirit is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Jesus is telling the disciples their about to receive the Holy Spirit that is Receive Jesus Himself

Acts2;33 Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.

Rod-GoodwinRod Goodwin said:

Hi Carolyn I hope your not taking what I'm saying as a personal attack i believe you are sincere and trying to serve the Lord to the best of your ability. I'm just asking you to consider Jesus words and if they line up with the teaching that you have grown up with.

The following 3 scriptures are the words of Jesus

Luke 13:3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

John 3:15-16 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Luke 11;13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him? Jesus speaks of repenting, believing and asking for the Holy Spirit

A baby can do none of these things (repent believe or ask) I'm not saying that God does not love babies or that He rejects them just that a baby cannot be born again (saved) according to Jesus words

If a baby can be born again (saved) then what of the many who are baptised as babies and even "confirmed" and then grow up as non-beleivers. Are they saved?

I have read your article "explain Christianity" and although it has many good points I cannot accept that a baby can be born again because of the reasons I've listed above also I think it would be better if it had some scriptures to strengthen your points Yours Rod

Rod-GoodwinRod Goodwin said:

Hi Carolyn Thanks for not being offended at my remarks Matthew 19;14 But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.

If we take this verse literally which I'm quite happy to do it seems to sat that little children belong to the kingdom of heaven regardless of whether they have been baptised or belong to a Christian family The children Jesus was refering to were most likely Jews

As for everyone else we are told to have a child like approach to God (Matthew18;3) And it is to adults that Jesus said Believe and be baptised (Mark 16) and Peter said repent and be baptised (Acts2;38)

Even then receiving the holy spirit is something that happens automatically when a person gets baptised

In Acts 8;15-17 and Acts 19;2-6 we see believers who had been baptised and yet had not recieved the Holy Spirit and therefore were not born again

Being childlike means rather than sticking to preconceived ideas no matter what we accept what Jesus said and ask for the Holy Spirit getting rebaptised like the Ephesians did and recieving the Holy Spirit with power exactly like what happened at pentecost

We should rejoice that God hasn't changed and that we can all receive the same experience that Peter said was the Holy Spirit Acts2;12 What meaneth this? (refering to speaking in tongues)

Acts2;16 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; 17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh

I'd reccomend trying it out you won't regret it

Yours Rod

At 20:46, Feb 19, 2010

Rod-GoodwinRod Goodwin said:

Hi Carolyn I think that this is most likely the passage your refering to

Romans6;4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: 6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.

And I can see how if you looked at this verse it might seem that baptism and being raised up in newness of life happen simultaneously

If I just share with you what I've seen with my own eyes In our church every person who receives the Holy Spirit speaks in a spiritual language

Sometimes this happens prior to getting baptised (like myself and Cornelius) Sometimes as they're getting baptised they come up out of the water and immediately start praising the Lord in their new language

And others seek the Lord for some time, days weeks and sometimes months before they have this blessing The point is everyone who asks receives some have to be more persistent than others but in the end the only ones who don't receive are those who have given up

Recently we have had A chinese guy receive the Holy spirit withi ts new prayer language who grew up in China with no knowledge at all of Christianity or any religion

and a lady from Nepal who was HIndu whop after seeing a friend receive this blessing decided to get baptised and now also has her own spiritual language and a growing confidence and trust in Jesus I hope this helps yours Rod

At 02:20, Feb 20, 2010

Rod-GoodwinRod Goodwin said:

Hi Carolyn

"Having one's own personal "spiritual language" is of no use." "I DO want to learn a Spiritual language"

These quotes from your last 2 posts seem to contradict each other If a Spiritual language is of no use why do you want to learn one?

"The purpose of Tongues was for the people to hear the Gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ." Your quote

Even if this is the only use then it is a very important use Paul outlines many uses for speaking in tongues. Which of these is invalid?

"There have been many a zealous & committed Christian, both converts & people who have been raised, who have never spoken in "tongues."" Your quote Many people are zealous for many causes for eg Environmetalists Boy scouts, Charity workers etc yet this does not cancel out the fact which Jesus said

If you ask you receive knock and the Door will be opened seek and you will find

If you think Jesus is wrong thats your preogative but the truth is still the truth Yours Rod

Hi Carolyn this is the opening paragraph from the article titled "Catholic Charismatic renewal" From Wikipedia

The Catholic Charismatic Renewal is a movement within the Catholic Church. Worship is characterized by vibrant Masses, as well as prayer meetings featuring prophecy and sometimes glossolalia, or "speaking in tongues."

This movement is based on the belief that certain charisms (a Greek word for gifts), bestowed by the Holy Spirit, such as the abilities to speak in tongues and to heal (which Christians generally believe existed in the early Church as described in the Bible) should still be practiced today. Category pages are odd -- they can't be renamed. A new page would have to be created at the new name and the old page deleted. In addition, the Categories list would have to be updated, along with any articles added to the old Category.

In other words, the effect desired can be achieved with simple steps, but it can be tedious. In this case, I'm not sure I see the benefit.

At 17:16, May 29, 2010

MdotleyWebster said:

In that case, I would probably say "Eastern Orthodoxy" or "Eastern Orthodox Christianity". Definitely not just "Orthodox". Similarly, I would say "Evangelical Christianity" rather than just "Evangelicals" or "Evangelicalism".

If others in the community think "Zen" is better than "Zen Buddhism", I am certainly willing to reconsider, but I think it's clearer like this. If Flickety or Maluniu makes the change, I'm not going to edit-war with them, either.  :-)

At 21:36, May 29, 2010

MdotleyWebster said:

I would be reluctant to say simply "Orthodox Christianity" b/c "orthodox" as a theological rather than sociopolitical term means conforming to the traditional faith. Most Christians would call themselves "orthodox" in that sense.

At 22:08, May 30, 2010

MdotleyWebster said:

We'll cross the "Eastern" Orthodox bridge when we come to it, I guess. :-)

However, I don't think the comparison to Orthodox Judaism or Baha'i-ism is particularly helpful. I don't know about the Baha'i, but I'm fairly sure that most Jews would agree that the Orthodox Jews conform to the traditional faith better than Reform or Conservative Jews, so "Orthodox" as a proper name is an accurate description, as well. In Christianity, however, many groups would claim to be more orthodox (i.e., conforming more to the traditional faith) than the Orthodox (denominational), so that "Orthodox Christianity" alone is ambiguous, rather than clear.

Hi, I've noticed your categorization of articles, and I'm glad to see you doing this. However, I would like to suggest to you that you could look at various sub-levels of topics to find one more specific to the article, rather than a more general top-level category. For example, on headaches, instead of merely "conditions and treatments", look inside for a sub-heading on headaches, or do a search on headaches in the little box and see if you can find the category that way. Just my own idea!

Carolyn, how on earth does "Silence Bores and Showoffs" get to be under the category "personal care and style"? would you mind explaining that to me? If you can't do better than that, perhaps you could try another aspect of contributing your time here at Wiki. Sorry but I feel it just doesn't work and doesn't help the community to put articles where they can never be found again.

You're welcome. Please also keep in mind that of the many articles on the list of uncategorized, some are articles to be deleted, some to be merged, some stubs. Those I find hard to deal with. Also, some frankly are so strange I can't imagine how to categorize them.

Hey Carolyn, just wanted to add to Teresa's post. Everything people do on wikiHow is all volunteer work. Don't ever think that a job, such as categorizing, needs to completed by one person. By working together as a community, we all achieve an awesome experience, for not only the outside readers, but for ourselves as well. If things get too heavy for you, relax and take a break. Like Teresa, I'm buried in images. The last thing you want to do is fret over something.

Thanks for writing a new article here! I and other wikiHow editors appreciate that you've taken the time to contribute to our shared how-to manual.

I'm writing to let you know that your recent article has been nominated for deletion. Many new articles get nominated for deletion for a variety of reasons. Read our deletion policy for details.

Don't worry, a nomination for deletion doesn't guarantee that your article will be deleted. If you think it shouldn't be deleted, please comment on the discussion page explaining why this article should be retained.

Some generic tips to help any article be kept in wikiHow include, doing more research on the topic and then providing some references to 3rd party sources. The community will then review your comments and the article before making the decision to keep or delete it.

I don't want this nomination for deletion to discourage you. Learning all of the wikiHow policies can take some time. wikiHow does get easier. Read the Writer's Guide for some tips. I hope you stick with us and keep contributing!

Your article Finding Minuitcinq has been nominated for deletion because it is advertisement. WikiHow is not a place for advertisement. It will now be decided upon the community if the article will be retained or deleted. If you have any questions or concerns, drop me a message on my talkpage.

Instructions for changing oil and filter 1. Oil and filter needs to be changed every 250 hours 2. Write down on the log the existing meter number applying 250 hours to it for the next oil change time. 3. Always use oil jugs with 15/40 weight. 4. Use filter# 122-0550 a special type for this generator. 5. Make sure we have 20 litres of new oil still in stock for the next change. 6. Ask Hart (site engineer) for more oil and filters. 7. Oil change process should take 30 minutes. 8. Warn any of crew prior to shutting down the generator. 9. Hold down the red OFF button for about 4 seconds to shut down the generator. 10. Let the oil cool for about 20 minutes it helps the oil thin enough to drain easily. 11. Let the oil settle back down into the pan 12. Remove the oil filter cap from the engine before you plug for draining 13. push-down-and-twist the filter cap on the top of the engine to get it off. 14. The drain-plug’s is located in the bottom of the oil –pan under the engine. 15. In order to open the drain-plug’s you have to unscrew recessed-head nut with the Allen wrench. 16. Use 12mm Allen wrench it is located by the door next to the stock of oil filters. 17. Take the junk oil and filter to black-painted cans for recycling. 18. Always use the funnel for pouring in the new oil 19. Wipe up around the filter and drain-plugs afterwards with a rag. 20. Do not leave any dirty oil in the motor, drain until it’s just dripping. 21. Put the drain-plug back in just “Sung” is tight enough; no heaving on the wrench. 22. Screw the new filter located on the left side of motor by gripping with your hand until is tight enough. 23. Generally if a filter has been over –tightened wreck it with screwdriver to get it off. 24. Wipe the rubber gasket of the new filter with a finger-dip of clean oil before they screw the filter onto the engine. 25. Filter wrench must go safely back on the shelf where it belongs to. 26. Dipstick is the rod with the loop at the top which is used to check the oil level 27. Find dipstick located on the right side of the engine block, closest to the wall 28. Start button is the green marked ON.

My initial intent of not using grade-2 markers (and using grade-1 ones instead) was to lessen the amount of ad poop within the article. The rest was edited poorly, because wikihow treats wikimarkup the wrong way. And broken list had a false start, so I put the numbers manually. Overall intent was to make the article less ad-pooped than others.

Hi Carolyn Barratt/Archive2. Thank you for starting a new article on wikiHow!

I noticed that a title you started is very similar to a title we already have. It looks like they might be duplicates! On wikiHow, we consider two articles to be duplicates when their titles are practically interchangeable (even if the content is different). When we find a duplicate, we then work to make make sure all the information ends up consolidated on one page, typically the one with the simpler, more commonly searched title. That way, our readers can find everything about that particular topic in one place.

If you agree that the title you started is a duplicate, you can help by adding your how-to advice to the other page. The duplicate page will eventually get redirected to the other page, and we don't want to lose all the great information you provided. If you don't think your article is actually a duplicate, feel free to leave a note on the discussion page explaining why, and let me know, too. Sometimes we make mistakes, and we definitely don't want to merge it if it is different!

If you have any questions or need help with anything, just reply to this message. Thanks again for contributing!

Carolyn,

I have suggested your article be merged with How to Celebrate Thanksgiving. The articles are very similar.

Also, the article you wrote did not quite answer the question. The question was Volunteer to Help During Thanksgiving which to me meant ways to volunteer to help. Not how to prepare Thanksgiving Dinner. Perhaps I am wrong. I am leaving these comments on the discussion page too for community discussion.

Hey Carolyn! How's it going?

I noticed you've been answering requests! :) I added some info to two of the articles you recently started, can you look them over?

I saw that they almost got deleted for being duplicates, but in actuality the titles are distinct because they're broader than the titles we already have, so I edited the content to make that clear. I hope that's alright with you.

If you ever have an article nominated for deletion or merging and you're not sure why, feel free to drop me a line about that (or anything, really!) and I'd love to help!

Hello!

I noticed that an article you started doesn't really follow an instructional format. Can I offer some advice to help it from getting deleted? Since we're a how-to site, it's important that in each of the steps of the article, you give the reader an action to take. It's good to provide background information, but without actual instructions, it's more of an encyclopedia or blog entry than a how-to.

Can you revise the article with this in mind? For more information and tips on writing on wikiHow visit our Writer's Guide and How to Format a wikiHow Article. I hope they're helpful! Let me know if you have any questions, or if there's anything I can do to help.

Thanks for your edits on Learn to Let Go of Things. Thanks for categorizing!

About the repent, etc. -- I realize that you want to keep it simple. So, you just take the approach of adding members to the Church: good. Also I weaved in that more complex detail as links.

Oh, the reason I had made protestant and evangelical lowercase is that they are common nouns, but Catholic and Orthodox are proper nouns -- but caps are fine, as I believe that you mean them as proper nouns, and mean respect by capitalizing them: that's good.

Thanks for simplifying it all, which you do so well. Yea-know, I tend to complicate things, but then I taught math and so I sort of like analytical stuff.

Hi. I saw you made/editied an article in the crushes area, and I have a situtation I need help with. Just how can I spend more time with him!?

Well, ok, I have this crush in my English class. The problem is that I can't spend enough time with him to become his friend and let him know I like him. We only have English together, but he claims he has the same lunch period as me, even though I have never seen him in the cafeteria.

In English class, how can I ask him where he sits at lunch without sounding awkward/weird? What can my first sentence be with him tomorrow? I want to spend a whole lunch period with him because he sits too far away from me in English class. I won't let him know I like him in English because it will embarrass me, and maybe even him.

I seem like I'm lucky to meet him; he has a great personality. He's very optimistic and he said he cares about everyone in the class today, meaning that I mean SOMETHING to him! But just yea, how can I ask him where he sits at lunch?

What about his number? How can I ask if I don't sit too close to him in class? Thanks.

Our teacher doesn't leave much time to socialize after the lesson....like we don't have enough time to get out of our seats and talk. Also, this will be my very first boyfriend if I'm lucky; I am inexperienced.
