Oh, dear, I didn't want to make it uneditable.. Maybe add something about making sure that all gates in the pasture are secure and such or something? Anyway, yep, I drive, but I don't often- small town, no real reason to. Eh, the test isn't that hard, if you really try, you should do just fine.

Yes, those are all hobbies, and all topics wikiHow should cover. What I'm wondering is how we might get more people who do various hobbies to write about them in wikiHow. If you have any ideas about connecting hobbyists with wikiHow and getting them to write, please leave them in the forum thread.

I don't know what it is either. I've tried three online translation services... It's not a common language for sure. I was unsure whether to delete, block or whatever. This account has over a hundred previous, decent contributions... I hate to block it for gibberish in an untranslatable language.

On the other hand, I saw that maniac warned him/her today already... perhaps that will be sufficient.

Hi Amy: I have seen in the forums that a new project has been created. I think this will go hand in hand with wikiWanted, as this new project brings one request from each category, into the spotlight each week. Perhaps you will want to work with the leader so that things will coordinate well between your project and his. I am thinking that perhaps your category leaders will wish to choose a request for him to feature in his project page, bringing that request to the attention of a wider group of editors.

Just apply this code to the talkpage of the offender: {{warning}} and that should do it for you. If you wish to name an article they have created which is against policy you can give the {{nothanks|put name of article here}} warning instead.

Hi Amy:

It seems from the patrol log that you marked this article as patrolled.......I am seeing a few problems here and am thinking the article should perhaps have been tagged.

Did you have a reason for not recommending this article be merged to Overcome Stage Fright?

At 01:04, Oct 19, 2007

JackHerrickJack H said:

Thanks for the patrolling!

At 01:08, Oct 19, 2007

KnowItSomeKnowItSome said:

You can use the {{merge}} tag if you want to recommend the merge (since wikiHow does not like to have more than one article per topic). For the numerous spelling and mechanical errors, the {{copyedit}} tag would work well. And for the punctuation in the title, the {{title}} tag would be useful.

However, in this case, the best approach might possibly be {{nfd|dup}}

At 01:18, Oct 19, 2007

KnowItSomeKnowItSome said:

Here is another article which needed a tag. This one, which you patrolled three times, should have a speedy tag because in addition to being about something which is not possible, since gremlins do not exist, it is a nasty vanity page which has been posted to embarrass someone's classmates. We do not keep that kind of article around long enough to show up in a google search, so anything like that needs to be marked with a speedy tag.

At 01:27, Oct 19, 2007

KnowItSomeKnowItSome said:

I am glad I can help, because you do a tremendous amount around here to help build the world's largest how-to manual and having those tags handy does make the job just a little bit easier.

At 01:45, Oct 19, 2007

KnowItSomeKnowItSome said:

As part of learning the tags, do you have a feeling for which tags might be most appropriate in this article?

At 11:37, Oct 19, 2007

KnowItSomeKnowItSome said:

The best thing is to consider each step of the article. If this step, for example, is spelled correctly, no action would be needed. If it has any misspelled words, they need to be corrected.

this will create a happy envire ment also dont forget the towles

If all steps begin with a capital letter and end with a period, all may be good. If not, one would fix that, or apply a copyedit tag. For example

take a piece of wood and carve a stool

Another good idea is to read each step and decide whether, in your experience, what is recommended has been helpful. If not, you may wish to ask yourself if the step is farcical. For example,

take each towel and cut them into a snowlake be creative about it.

If when you take a bath, you do not take all your bathtowels and cut them into snowflakes, you may want to consider marking this article {{nfd|jok}}, which is our way of marking an article for deletion because it a complete joke.

That sounds like a good note for the Admin Notice Board, the information about the vandal does.....I will take a look and see if I can find this user's contribs list.

And the pics......wow, that sounds very useful, especially if that is a difficult procedure. I cannot see how it would run against policy. However, depending on how the pics look, there might be a little bit of a stir from some of our very young users......so you might wish to be prepared for a bit of a forum discussion on this. Perhaps a good thing to do would be to post in the Village Pump and let people know about your plans. That way, you will know before you go to the trouble of arranging these photos, whether there are likely to be objections.

Sounds like a tough time for the animals. I hope things are going as well as possible.

WELCOME to wikiHow!!!
wikiHow needs your help to help build the world's largest how-to manual. As of this minute we have 26,034 articles, but you can help us to create many more.
I have linked you up with some important information which has helped many important contributers make their imprint in wikiHow worthwhile. At the moment we have 193,229, this number is increasing everyday, with your help we can create many more.
Before starting, I would suggest taking the wikiHow Tour, here you can learn how you can contribute, as well as what things you can do as a user. The Community Portal is a great place to find resources.
Try the IRC, this is a good place to meet and get to know other users, rather than chatting on Talk Pages, you can click on this link to go straight into the wikiHow chatroom, there will usually be someone on that will be able to answer any questions you may have.
If you need any help, feel free to Talk to me, the help team or the admins.
Make sure you take a look at the Writer's Guide and the wikiHow policies, these pages will help you get up-to-date with what is required and expected when contributing to wikiHow.
If you are out of ideas for article titles, try the Suggested Topics.
I will leave you know so you can start your life on wikiHow, please don't hesitate to talk to me, or anyone on wikiHow.
We are a community and will always try and help!

That is a good question to ask! This is written by a trusted editor, and one who has been asking in the forums about how we can provide more needed information to teens. So we know that this article is coming from the right perspective......one of a genunine desire to help with something which is an everyday problem for a massive number of people. I can see why you were concerned, though, because some of the material in the article might get pretty close to be sexually suggestive, just by the very nature of the topic. I imagine that someone might place an NFD on that article, but I myself would not do so. Let's let this one go and see what happens. My guess is that someone is going to nominate it, that there will be a raging debate about it, but that there will be tremendous support for keeping it, and that in the end, a few of the sentences will be changed a bit and the article will be kept.

Yes, it would be great if someone would take up the administration of that award. I was thinking I would do it every few months or so, but it turned out to very difficult to do the counting, particularly since there was some kind of a problem with some of the counts. I posted in the forums about that problem, and I guess others picked up that issue and ran with it, but I decided that I did not have the patience to work with that count any more and to stay on top of the issues surrounding it. So I have not really thought about it since that time. Maybe there needs to be a committee or something to keep track of that award, and how to count for it, and who has received it and who is next in line to get it.

Sorry....no. The best you can do is to go into your contribs, and click Main, under the namespace box. Then click GO. This will show you everything you have done in an article. It will not show you articles which you started. And it will of course have the most recent contribs on top. You can check your earliest ones, by hitting the OLDEST button

Just download a picture, as if you were going to use it on any article. Same thing.

Use your Sandbox to d/l it to. then in the dscription space, write your message, and in the thumb place add the size you want, and if you want it right, or center.

make believe its an article.

The sandbox is great because you can preview it until you see what you want.

Also I write it up on there, and copy it....this way I can save it for another award, by just writing over it.

Saves time and figuring out

To fix it, I went back into your talkpage.....sometimes it is very hard to know when the code for these barnstars actually begins and where it ends. So I made sure to look very carefully and pick up ALL the code. Then I went back in to you your userpage and pasted that over what you had.

Thanks for the lovely note, by the way. It has always been a pleasure for me to work with you.

There are probably two productive approaches to take with regard to thinking about creating new Barnstars. First, you might wish to read the materials Harry has created over at the multipage Award Center, and then, if you still have questions, you would probably be best to ask Harry himself.

Oh. I listed everything in Excell. THEN came the hard part... opening EVERY request to get the date it was requested... copied/pasted that date into excell so that I could sort the requests by date. Having it online would be very nice. I'm sure that the data is "in there" somewhere... it's just a matter of pulling it out in a format we can use. I did it the "hard" way... but once I've got the data, it's not too difficult to keep up with. I only have to add the NEW article requests... 5-10 a week.

Thanks Amy. I have some questions and then some suggestions.

  • You say that the "information is within wikiHow, we just need to unlock it and organise it." Could you please explain what information you are referring to that is "locked"?
  • You say that you wish to sort the requests by date like recent changes. I guess I see them already sorted that way if I look at the requests as a whole, so I am asking what precisely are you seeking - is the patrol style list somehow better?
  • Stale dating concerns me a little as a reason for deletion. A good request is always a good request. It just means that the right author has not yet appeared. Certainly, a large part of that may be that good requests are getting lost down in the heap and people only search so far. So if perhaps we could resolve that, we'd be half way there. Could you perhaps explain to me why you feel what hurdles"stale dating" might be creating? When you say "really old requests are not as useful as they may have been", it might help to elaborate. I can see that How to Attend the Australia Day 2006 Celebrations" is stale-dated but "How to Tune a Violin" is timeless. Does this make sense to you?
  • You also mention "if wikiHow has a new article written which is the request in a whole" - is this the concern that some authors write an article in the request itself and it is not unearthed for ages, if at all? If so, yes, that's an issue we need to address for sure! Please let me know if this is what you mean.

In terms of what I am working on - it is a Requests project that lists 1. requests for articles already on other How To sites that we lack; and 2. requests that are not on other how-to sites yet but would be great answered by wikiHow first - both Travis and I have done searches on these. Maybe this dovetails with what you are thinking - I'm not sure but it probably helps to explain to you!

In terms of the technical issues, I think it is important to be really clear about what you are seeking and to set that out for Travis - I hope that by thinking about answers to my questions above, this might assist. In terms of content and duration of requests, I'm happy to work with you.

I really hope the ups and downs are better for you now. Is the equine 'flu scare over yet? Hope it didn't impact you.

Amy, I have the embarrassing task of helping to clear accuracy ratings on various articles, and have did an edit on http://www.wikihow.com/Begin-Horseback-Riding which you wrote. The ratings appear to question the steps regarding buying a horse, and the article not focussing on riding, or learning to ride, except in the context of getting an instructor. It has been 30 years since I myself have ridden, so I am a bit rusty:)! If you get a chance, would you look at my edits and see if you can do any additional editing, keeping on subject with the title? By the way, you did a great job on the article to begin with, so please don't take my editing attempts as anything but a requirement of accuracy patrolling. Thanks, Bob

Hi Amy

Seasons Greetings!

Just a gentle reminder that you have a few articles under construction: http://www.wikihow.com/Category:Under-Construction

If you don't think you'll get around to editing them soon, perhaps change the construction tag to a stub to let other editors have a chance at improving them. Otherwise, it's probably a good idea to update the tags to reflect a more recent date.

Hope the horses, studies and summer are all good!

If it's not one thing it's another in our harsh sunburnt land! Do go to the snow if you get a chance - I love the Snowies and those Brumbies... Used to have close encounters with them hiking. Haven't seen them skiing yet but maybe some day. Enjoy Christmas and Merry Christmas to you too!

I'm in Hobbies and Crafts... and we just got hit with 30 new requests this past week. That's as many in one week as I was able to write in the past month. <sigh> We're back up to 200 again. I'll be working on them this next week, as I'm on vacation. I'll try to get two a day written if I can.

The numbers were a cinch to get. Not hard at all... took me perhaps 5 minutes. Glad to help! Lemme know if you need other stuff like that and I'll do my best to help if I possibly can.

Merry Christmas!
