Hey!

Make a Window Screen looks great! I understood most of the instructions--I'm a little lost with the snapped in and screwed in types. I got a kit from the local hardware store and my nephew is eager to put it together.

A "rough cut" mower - I used one of those behind a big tractor to "tame" a lost hay field once. I haven't had a chance to read the article, only scanned it, but it made me miss the old farm I used to work for! Now I have to get one of these eeny weeny garden mowers for this eeny weeny patch of grass next to my house. =)

The pea pictures made me drool. Are you happy now? There's nothing like fresh peas. My patio beans are doing well, though!

Hey Bob!

I didn't nearly mow down the asparagus...I almost cultivated it. Same result, different "newbie" mistake. =)

Building a screen door...I need one of those, too, for the front door, so yeah, that'd be awesome!

I recently formatted Build a Natural Looking Waterfall With a Filtrific Vanishing Water System, or at least tried to. It was very confusing. Can you make sense of it?

At least half of the "how to's" being posted here are inane, offensive, anti-social and just plain WRONG, not to mention completely out of touch with the "lofty" precepts of those who originated this site, therefore, your assessment of my comments is laughable, to say the least, and being deprived of the "experience" would hardly be a life-altering event.

HOWEVER, I choose to post here, and I will continue to do so as long as I wish; any attempt to arbitrarily block me while allowing the continuation of MUCH more offensive and inane articles and comments would be demonstrably discriminatory, capricious and harassing, and would qualify as the subject of legal action, both collective and personal.

Sadly we do seem to have a large amount of spambots targeting the site now. When it comes to spambots (not humans), I apply block periods of 3 months on first offense. Spambots, aren't human and aren't interested in "learning" how to be better editors here, so the best thing to do is just get rid of them. Here is a handy article to help with that:

Submitting recipes, I wouldn't call it writing per se, requires little intelligence. It's easy for me to do. I do think everyone should learn how to cook, sew and understand basic car maintenance. Long ago home ec taught basic cooking and sewing skills. Most schools are not teaching sewing any more. And when I was in high school I couldn't take shop as it wasn't for girls. I often wish I had learned how to do minor house repairs and learned basic car maintenance. My husband has taught me some basics but that's about it. So hopefully a few of my recipes may teach someone how to cook. We can always hope.

FYI: I added this link: http://www.wikihow.com/Write-a-Basic-Wikihow-Article to the relateds for the Writer's Guide. It is a very concise article covering the basic mistakes I have seen in NAB. Also, it covers things I had to learn the hard way here at wikiHow. Feel free to remove the related if you think it is inappropriately placed.

Again, congrats on the Barnstar. It is well deserved.

I now know why pancakeparty believes my name is inappropriate since if you research Juggalette it signify a follower of the band Insane Clown Posse, it also can interpret as an overtly feminine term use to describe a female follower...so to not cause any further problems I will change it promptly...or maybe the editor/contributor has a problem with the 4sho which in popular language means for real...but either way to please everyone and keep the peace i will do the simplest thing and change it

Thank you

Hey Bob!

That user--yeah, definitely warned enough, and a block is in order to stop the link pushing. Good call. And the links can be added to the spam blacklist in any order; as you can see, I put mine in the bottom. I don't recall the order ever presenting any kind of technical issue. Maybe somebody comes along once in a while and alphabetizes the list, just for fun.

We got two screens up, both of them broke at some point during the process, but we managed. They're not the best fitting screens; our window frames are old and wooden and the corners are NOT square (the edges aren't even straight) so I'm scared to measure the front door...! Either way, my nephew enjoyed the project, so it's all good.

Unfortunately, they are correct in their title requests... Lego should actually be "LEGO"... all caps. I made most of the changes this morning while messing around in the title change list.

The Bionicle title I removed the tag for. While Bionicle is made by LEGO, they are not called "LEGO Bionicles"... just "Bionicle".

Thanks for checking though... I appreciate knowing that I wasn't the only one who noticed the uptick in title change requests! We're caught up to date on the articles which had ONLY a title change tag... and we're plugging away at the list of articles which needed a title tag AND some other thing as well... "Articles which need further editing" is the euphemistic term for them. Many of them have "stub", "title" and "copyedit" or some such. As of this morning, we were down to only 50 or so of those from nearly 400 a month ago. <celebratory noises here>

We've got someone who has gone through all the Yugioh articles and suggested a change to Yu Gi Oh... which is ALSO the correct capitalization and spacing... <heavy sigh>... They're correct, of course,... but I wish they weren't so I could skip the work!

The titles aren't too bad... 20-30 a day... it's finding time to clear out the backlog that is a problem. Hopefully, with Richard and I both working on the list, we'll stay up to date and not get THAT far behind again.

At 20:39, Jul 21, 2008

Loiswade42Lois Wade said:

If the suggested title is spelled correctly, I just copy it (control C) and paste it onto the move page (Control V) and hit "enter". If it is NOT spelled correctly, I will hand type the proposed title.

Remember to go back into the article to remove the title tag once you've changed the title.

and Thanks! It's not all that hard really... just time consuming. One nice benefit is that you get three contribs per title moved, since the 'puter counts the move of the page, the move of the associated talk page, and your editing the tag out of the article after the move. Editcountitis... I know I know... <grins!>
