Well, what I saw in the image was "large enough" but if they speedy it, I can always check out "the" calendar, so let'em delete it!

By the way, yes, with the title problems and content, it does qualify as speedy, but with the No-indexing on new articles, it isn't as relevant as it once was whether speedy or clogging up the nfd/guardian's arteries....

Re your note to HB: There's no wikiHow-Google agreement or partnership. We're just customers of their ad service, like many other sites on the 'net. Sometimes we wish there were a partnership, hah! Might make them understand the wiki intro issue a bit more if we had that kind of contact. But we just have to follow the rules like any other site running their ads, if we want to keep the lights on :)

Ah okay, a matter of semantics, then -- I just meant to clarify that we don't have any special relationship. Would be nice if we did, heh. But we are just another customer to them, and for us, following their guidelines is how we keep truckin', or none of this would be possible. I think the heat of that particular issue has passed, but I still think avoiding "how to" is not only good by their standards but also better writing, for us - you can get to the point and leave out any transitional phrasing or call-to-action, anyway, so I think it's probably a win-win :)

Thanks for making HB aware of the concerns, anyway! I appreciate your attention to detail with it!

Hi I joined today because I wanted to make an update to an article about Stop Procrastinating. I read it a while back and found that it was factually incorrect - an app is mentioned as being free but it in fact costs $78 per year! I downloaded it at the time and haven't used it as a result of the price. I also wanted to add a very useful app to the mix that I genuinely found useful and help me to Stop Procrastinating. At least readers would then have a choice of apps, unlike I did. However, all of my edits have been removed. It took me absolutely ages to do them as I was learning as I went along. I just wanted to make this piece better. I'm not sure what has happened. The whole process was exhausting and now do I start again and see all my work deleted again?

Oh no, not at all Ron - I'm sorry about the double upload. The bot itself can be persistent in uploading when it thinks there was an upload error that caused the pictures not to show; this is generally prevented by Daniel, who processes feedback and reroutes image concerns where they need to go for improvements. Only problem here is that Daniel was on vacation this week! I apologize that it wasn't taken care of, and thanks for rolling them back again.

Hello. Me again. I am confused and wanted to ask you for some assistance. Can you tell me how the following text appeared on my talk page:

FA candidate alpha.png "HumanBeing" is a current featured article candidate. A featured article should showcase wikiHow's very best work. Please help this article reach featured article status by improving it. Feel free to discuss the merits of selecting this page for featured article or sharing ideas to improve the article by posting a comment on this discussion page.

This article was nominated as a featured article candidate on 2014-11-20. If the article is not selected to become a featured article within 3 months of this date, this nomination template may be removed by any editor.

Have I done something daft and pasted it in by accident? I checked the history of the page, had a fiddle with the page, noticed ithe text in question vanish, queried, mentally, what it was therefor, then put the page back the way it was when I first spotted it. Any words of wisdom greatly appreciated. Get back to me at your leisure. Ta.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I appreciate your concern about the title showing up less often in search results. I feel that one should aim to select the most specific title that matches the article content accurately, regardless of search results but I understand that my perspective on this issue may differ from other people's perspectives. I just changed the title to Tell if Someone Is a Bully at School; any booster or admin is always welcomed to change it back if they disagree.

Thanks for your edits on User_talk:Byankno1. I knew I had helped in that previous one. But, I did want to thank you. With the new job, I've been very busy. I took a look though, and at the time I saw it, it looked a bit tough, and I didn't know much about the programming code the article was implying. I mean, it was probably easier than it looked, but it was tough not knowing anything about Oracle.

I guess I had to be there to see what went on. Glad my formatting fix a few months ago, could have shined some light on issue-matic articles that have programming code in them.

Thanks again for the fix.

Yeah, Robbie Lee's articles have a distinct style of writing that makes it difficult to read due to the redundant and extraneous information. That one still has room for improvement despite its FA status, but the amount of detail certainly makes it a bit of an eyesore to work on :/

I see from above that you've run into some family issues. Hope all is well on your side! Christmas definitely deserves to be spent with family difficulties kept at bay.

Thanks Ron! Could have sworn I replied to you earlier but I don't see my edit on you talk page history. If I'm being redundant in replying again, ignore me :)

Thanks for all your help with the video templates. The rolling-back accounts were all connected, soooo I'm afraid I did some no-nonsense blocks on those. When someone knows to change accounts and undo/revert so selectively, it just smells too fishy. I left the initial account unblocked for now - if they heed your good advice, hopefully they can work out how to edit more constructively!

I set up a filter to hopefully mark use of the Ev template going forward. You should be able to find them here. If it works, I don't see a big problem with actually preventing the use, either, but we'll want to watch it first for a while to make sure there aren't a whole load of false positives. Sometimes the filters can pick up scenarios I hadn't thought of, and we don't want to get in the way of any good faith contributors.

Thanks for the Language Projects heads-up, too - I did an edit to clean up the old TOC issue, and Chris B had already removed the false site listing. Hippity Happity Monday!

Hi Ron,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I just made this edit and respectfully disagree in that the article seems to be more about letting go after a breakup than acting to get a date, so I'll go ahead and change the title. Let me know if you disagree - nothing is irreversible.

I do think there is room for a separate article on How to Act to Get a Date.

There are some caching rules in place for how often a user page updates when viewed by someone other than the person who owns the account. Clearing cookies and cache can help too. In general, user page views can be a bit buggy historically - we've tried to make them more consistent, but failed to do so in a timely manner that makes sense in the context of other priorities on wikiHow. So strange that it fluctuated like that though. Let me know if you see other examples! Still happy to do the username change if he wants it, but the percentage sign might cause other issues...

Hi "See-Ren-Dip-Tee/Tea" -- [(T)axed (e)nough (a)lready] Party. Yeah pun/fun. I'm pathetic, not apathetic...

"Good to the last drop", Tea Party! Too bad, over 50% of people are not conservative enough in the big-welfare "blue states" to get the system turned around. Progressives for big gov't tax and spend (and destroy motivation by punishing success). Punish marriage by paying so much per child for unwed women to raise kids.

Okay to raise tax a little on rich of course, but:

  • The top 10% of income earners pay near 2/3 of the income taxes;
  • Next 10% pay close to the other 1/3;
  • Next 30% pay less than 10% of the total income tax burden;
  • Lower 50% of income scale pay "no income tax at all" after deductions, refunds and credits, but get benefits with no skin in the game.

Progressives don't admit that to the people who not paying attention to that. The left argues that working-poor so pay payroll tax/Soc Sec FICA. Hey, FICA system is broke, hand to mouth, no fund exists. Federal gov't is 18 trillion in debt... I'm still hoping, but the light at the end of the tunnel looks "obscure"...

Well, okay, I love capitalism as the best system (and the only one that has freedom, unlike anarchy which becomes dictatorship so that's crud). The scary free markets like our dollars are based on employment, cheerfulness and little else, as it is "boom and snag or bust" -- and paper money, bonds and stocks may become about as "valuable" as wallpaper. Junk bonds / common stock is like used cars or costume jewelry that can end up as junk.

Big gov't tax and spend punishes job creators, entrepreneurs, and corporations as we have the highest corporate tax in the western world.

Done.

It's funny that you showed me that screenshot. I came across that error a while ago and actually found a trick to get around it. You get the error when you try to post a message with more than six links. But you can bypass it by posting one chunk of your message with three URLs, opening the page up for editing, scrolling down to your message, pasting the rest of your message into the code, and saving the edit. I planned on writing an article about it, which is currently in my drafts. ;)

Okay. It's that article you are talking about. I think that that information would help the article be better, just so that rabbit owners can know if their rabbit is overheated.

IllneedasaviourIllneedasaviour said:

I just did some testing and found that it's more than two external links that triggers the error. When I first wrote the article, I did a mix of internal and external links, which is where I got the initial six links from. But yeah, posting three external links would give you that message. Check out the article and lemmie know what you think: Post a Talk Page Message with Multiple Links on wikiHow

I'm not sure who closed the thread. I'm pretty sure the forum software doesn't have functionality for seeing who has done what moderation-wise. Although, I think it was closed because it was a 12 week old thread and then someone bumped it.

I haven't been following the conversation at all, but it looks like a good number of other people have commented and expressed approval!

Hi Alabaster, I've no idea re the kick, I'd ask the author. I didn't have the desire to research the term––wildly hoping it was dance-ism, I left it to its wiki fate. Hey Alabaster.

I actually gave a rising star to one of my articles. I know I shouldn't have, but I hadn't got a rising star in ages, and I promised myself that I would be a featured author before Christmas. The backlog for boosting articles is so big at the rate it is going I would become a featured author in years, and I didn't want to wait that long. So far all my articles that have been boosted have got rising stars, so I decided to not wait. Anyway, Adelaide criticize me for it. She made an edit to it, her point being that I shouldn't have boosted it, however I preferred it without the new edit. Could you take a look here and tell me what you think.

While I wont boost any of my own articles again, I really think that we should be allowed to boost and give all our articles rising stars. It would be an incentive to become a NABer, the articles wouldn't get put in the backlog and we can still be recognised for our work.

Thank you!

Hi Ron,

Savas_P sent me a link to the edits that you made here. I appreciate your attempt to improve the article and can admit that I did not read carefully enough when I was making those changes.

However, I wanted to let you know that I respectfully disagree with your changes. For example, I noticed that you said that my decapitalizations of ingredients did not follow the recipe guidelines. Would you be able to provide me with a link to the guidelines that you are referring to? I would be more than happy to take a look so that I can learn from my edits to the article that you are referring to.

I did also notice that you were concerned about my change to this sentence: "Frog smoothies originated in South America, however (but) the delicacy is now known around the world". I apologize if I was attempting to impose my personal preferences upon the original author. That was not my intention; I always try to respect the author's personal preferences. I just thought that "but" is more grammatically correct than "however" in the sentence (according to this document, but I could be wrong). I do think, though, that the sentence could be changed to put "however" back if the author prefers that: "Frog smoothies originated in South America; however, the delicacy is now known around the world" or "Frog smoothies originated in South America. However, the delicacy is now known around the world".

Thank you for the additional clarifications you made to the article, though. I appreciate that. I will do my best to have more attention to detail when editing articles in the future.

Your last message explains a few things I was wondering about in general with wikiHow. After 4 months, more if you count my previous incarnations, I thought I was getting the lay of the wikiLand. Another piece of the jigsaw is now place. I now have no qualms about anything I have done here, not even articles about fictional VW Beetles. I have a pretty strong personal objection to anything too far along the lines of do as I say, don't do as I do but, I'm still not bored so I'll carrying on doing pretty much whatever I like around here until some makes me stop. Happy 2015 fellow contributor.

Thanks for your edits on User_talk:Byankno1. That was a borderline case, IMO. I kinda' am with Neil(Tiag). Although the formatting you used for each step was better, the bullet points didn't look too great. Standardization of the bullet points tend to be good for a popular page as the ANB.

Hi Alabaster!

I do feel bad for reverting it all, but I feel like the diamond and hand bullet points lent the page a rather unprofessional feel, and I had absolutely no idea how to remove them without making the leftover content go weird.

I've always found the tildes to be rather annoying. I personally sign with only 3, so it's just my username and a link to my talk page. If I use 4 and then add my name at the end, it's my username, the time/date, and my username. So putting in the end username isn't required.

As for the userlinks template, I've found putting in the reason for the report inside the template makes it look odd too. If I did {{userlinks|Tiagoroth|Example}}, and then did as most people do and explain my report after that, it would be the (userlinks) - Chat Blah blah reasoning blah blah - Signed

My opinion on people signing their reports is honestly one of "meh". I usually don't care who leaves a report, because I usually don't follow up. If they really cared to see what became of their report, they can feel free to check, but it's usually not something I'd prefer bandied about. It's easier for me to check the history if I did care than it is to edit with a template, send them a message, and then remove the template anyways because I dealt with whatever was being reported.

I'd be happy to see more uniformity on the ANB in terms of instructions, especially if it makes things easier for the few people who do report things. I'd be happier still to help, as well. My only request is the standard bullet points.

TiagorothTiagoroth said:

I enjoy sharing opinions :)

There are 3 conventional bullet points:

I've learned there is a huge difference between assuming instructions are understandable (you can honestly only know for yourself), and them being understandable. I suffer from this every day when I try to explain certain things they way that they exist in my head. I think it's easily fixed if there are two people working on it, such as us. And yeah, I think most people who use the ANB are the people who don't even need instructions, or are the people who regularly review it for new reports. It's too bad we can't operate under that assumption though.

Okay, thanks for your email.

On Save Money After Moving into a New Home I was concerned about the links, but since that the links contained the information for the article, I thought they are allowed to stay. Yes, I know I did a bad job boosting that article. I am glad you said that about the picture, I didn't like the picture, so I removed the link. Now, if what you said is correct, it has no advertisements.

Please also know I work on radio and am fully aware of brand name guidelines.

On Live Unhappily, I really do not think that is was written sarcastically. I trust HumanBeing would not do that.

Thanks

Hey Alabaster,

A very nice user has backed me up on Live Unhappily:

Hey Savas! I saw your question to Adelaide about How to Live Unhappily. I don't think so. The article itself is actually telling you how to stop living unhappily. I think the title was supposed to be How to Stop Living Unhappily, but maybe the editor was worried about duplicates so he changed it a little.

Do you think we should change the title. Again nobody told me that title changing can cause glitches. Would it not cause a glitch if we remove the star and add it back.

I am only 15 and still learning.

No worries on that. Thank you for explaining your reasoning.

Your message to Savas seems very diplomatic and well thought-out.

"I am sorry that you or others may take it as a slight to your capability or knowledge, for that was not my intent."

I do not see your edit as a slight to my knowledge. In fact, I am aware that I do not know everything.

"Why don't you write an article with the guidelines for recipes when you have some time? I think it would be good to link them appropriately in the Writer's Guide."

Are you referring to starting a page with the guidelines on writing a recipe on wikiHow specifically? I might consider that; thank you for the idea.

I don't really get how you want it more instructual I show how to dress and what specific items to use on a budget. my guide will help people but if it doesn't a specific format and gets deleted what's the point. actually people keep editing important elements out of my articles. I wrote about stuff I know about people that don't are taking important bits out which defeats the purpose of me putting stuff on here.

Just search "tarot cards and crystal ball" and it is one of the top results and you can see he took it from here http://www.tarotreadingdirectory.com/en/card-reading/337 What made me pick up on it was that in the article the images have a really long URL that starts with google.com, notice http://www.wikihow.com/index.php?title=Enhance-Psychic-Abilities&diff=16277465&oldid=16277352 I hope my reason is good enough, perhaps I should have explained that too him as well, but I do not want to overload him.

I don't know if theres an article on it yet(I haven't done the research), plus I don't have time enough to publish one if there isn't; I have an inuse article out that really MUST be finished soon.

By reading my User page, you'll find a template you can use to display a complete list of all the articles you've started in the public domain. There is an article on that, but I don't have the chance to find it again, right now. Do a little searching and it should come up.

Hi. Thanks for your help. When i wrote the article it was at work in a rush. The changes that you made like the introduction seems like you just changed it to your style and creating multiple steps for just the helmet is to me excessive there where things that made less sense like check the visor seal or visor coating. I have never had a visor leak out the box. most visors have a similar coating and whilst it may make rain bead they dont do great anti fog hence what the pinlock is for. Asking a shop for advice on coatings would get you laughed at. Again i really appreciate the effort but i changed it back. I wrote it because i wanted to so if it gets fully changed i see no point in it being here and would have no problem with it being deleted if it means i don't have to keep reverting major changes. i didn't realize that that was what this site is about and im not super impressed. If i could delete all my articles i would do so. A site where any article can be fully changed without the author agreeing or having a major say is to me a waste of time and is ripping off someones work.

Don't want to sack Dolphin, need it for other things, or reinstall anything for fear of making worse mess. If anyone wants to get their panties in a bunch about it, the fellow that gave it a Rising Star might be the one, not little old me. The Texas legislature is one of 9 that were not even shown to be working on this kind of corp. This is not the B corporation certification which is only a self regulated not required form. The state regulated Benefit Corporation as a legal entity is required to create a material positive impact on society and the environment and to meet higher standards of public accountability and transparency (about purpose of activities). This form differs from the contemporary statutory "business corp" which is required to make choices that are intended to make a profit for the stock holders and are not allowed to choose for the benefit of the "stake holders" community/public/neighbors.

And of course! Reporting forum spam is encouraged. Mind you, a lot of people with admin rights regularly visit the forums, so they will most likely get it first. But those admins who patrol the ANB will see that the thread has been deleted already and remove the report. Redundancy, if you will. It's not a bad thing. I see the next revision reverted your reports, so obviously some may not agree with me. If the forum threads still existed, then it's an issue that requires addressing.

The version looks good, but why should only successful chatting attempts be reported? If someone is attempting to solicit a conversation by sending an inordinate amount of talk page messages, then I think that should be reported and dealt with as well.

Thinking about it, a forum section should be added to get rid of that unrelated first paragraph on the ANB introduction about forum spam/etc, and the introduction should be expanded with relatively useful information.

Not sure if you re-added it, but there is a section that details that "My Username" should go after four tildes, which is not true.

I'm also all for removing reporting reasons in the userlinks template. After all, people can kind of guess why someone is being reported if they're in the chatting section :P Maybe remove it from the template explanation in each section, and note that any other information is optional but if necessary can be added after the template.

In the pages needing protection, I think "are the subject of an edit war" or some such sentence should be included with the targets of frequent vandalism.

Looks good other than all of that :)

Eat Spiders had been deleted several times over the years for nearly every reason in the book, and it recently popped up again. User:WikiMonkey had nominated the article for deletion as a joke, but I encouraged him to re-vamp the article with this cultural sensitivity in mind, and supplied him with a tasty, yet untested article from Epicurious to use as a guide.

I implore you to take a look and offer your criticisms/edits, as I think the article is now completely viable, and it made me chuckle. The title could possibly be changed to reflect the specific species of spider used (tarantulas) and the culture from which it came (Cambodian), but I look forward to your input.

"In the past, I have asked contributors to move such advertising to their user pages, stating that talk pages are for communication about wikiHow concerns, not for promoting products or services. Am I wrong?"

It's a reasonable request, and there's no clear rule about how to handle this. I'm admittedly laid back about it since people who make these kinds of changes to their own talk page tend not to get much interaction, or last long on wikiHow, once they realize advertising opportunities are limited.

"I did/do realize that the potential for such promotional content to be seen is rather low, but, to me, the larger issue is that the practice might proliferate, and even be recommended as it was here. "

Understandable concern! It did proliferate at one point, and that's how we ended up de-indexing talk pages. It hasn't been a major issue since, once spammers realized they couldn't improve their SEO rank by posting links on our talk pages.

Hi Alabaster,

You're an awesome editor, thanks so much!

I think I got the gist of how I'm suppose to be writing wikiHow articles! Everything looks great, except I would like to change one thing back. For step 3, you changed "girlfriend's shoe" to "someone's shoe", I would to change it back. I'm trying to entertain with adult humor, haha.

I'm new and haven't read up on the these "rules" I keep hearing about, so do I change it or you?

Thanks! :) Joeliyn

I see, thank you for explaining the reason behind the change!

I appreciate your idea, but I think the title is good for now. I wrote the article with the intention to introduce someone to copywriting. Copyediting would be something closer to what you did, which is edit to enhance the purpose of the copy.

However, if you're interested, we can write an article on how to copyedit, but that would require some brainstorming, haha. :)

Hi there Alabaster! Regarding the article I started about grooming, in New Zealand a "quip" is a problem or personal issue with something, so sorry if the term isn't universally appropriate. Okay! Thank you! Does that apply for all colors or just lighter colored ones? Hi Alabaster! I haven't talked to you in a while. I have a question. I'm writing an article on how to infuse (like for hemophilia, or Von Willibrans, etc. not like infuse herbs). How should I word it?

Hey, I like the templates! Thanks!

Although I don't understand what you did with the "multiple partitions" and"single partitions". The method I originally had was for a computer with one partition. Step (currently) 7 was so that anyone (regardless of partition #s) could do it. ("Click "Restore." You may have to select a disc if your Mac has more than one. Choose the Windows one.")

So I'm not sure if your method is a different method or accomplishes something different.

Also I don't understand why you changed the title, because you aren't actually deleting boot camp, just the partition.

At 16:44, Jan 11, 2015

Hibou8Hibou8 said:

(I think you meant reverting the title to the original one. Correct me if I'm wrong.)

I understand what you did now. Yes, I'd agree with that. Thanks. :)

At 18:39, Jan 11, 2015

Hibou8Hibou8 said:

Ok. As long as method 2 is removed and the title goes back to the original, do whatever you think is best. (You can't rename it to "Remove Windows from your Mac" because there are other ways of getting windows that wouldn't be covered (like parallels)).

Thanks for your edits on Cook a Tarantula Spider.

Upon further reflection, do you think it might be more accurate to use the plural in the title, e.g. "Cook Tarantula Spiders" since the instructions for each method call for 2 spiders? It may not be a big deal, but the plural is also referenced in the introduction, so it just looked a little "off." Your call, though.

"At no point does that opinion ever become a fact."

Scientific propositions are not opinions, they are statements that are tested by the scientific method. When these statements have a body of evidence such that all of the experts in a field of study agree, they have the status of facts. The earth revolves around the sun, life evolved through the process of natural selection, the earth is getting warmer due to human activity, homosexuality is biological, not a lifestyle choice, and racial stereotypes are harmful. These are facts.

Is WikiHow not based upon facts when there is scientific evidence?

When you infuse, you are adding factor to your blood. Factor is the missing part of the blood. For more information, you can look

Just so you know, the difference between VWD and Hemophilia is that Hemophilia is when your blood doesn't clot properly because it lacks sufficient blood-clotting proteins (clotting factors). VWD also lacks the clotting, but it's a different type. They are the same process. I was really surprised wikihow doesn't have more article (read: any) on hemophilia. My brother has vonwillibrans, and at a camp i went to with him, they taught me and him how to infuse. For some people it's every day, other's it's only if they have a bleed.
