How to Toast Nuts on the Stove

Toasting nuts is useful for baking, cereal making, and as decorative elements on a range of foods from cakes to fruit salads. Toasted nuts are also a good snack food.   • Nuts (preferably still in shells)

    Purchase or harvest nuts. If purchasing, it is preferable to buy nuts still in their shells as these are the freshest. Shell nuts if needed.

    Place nuts in a frying pan/skillet.

    Put the frying pan/skillet on the stovetop. Cook over a moderate heat until the nuts start to colour. It is important to toss the nuts to prevent them from over-cooking and burning.
