How to Tell Your Teachers You Won't Be Here over Email

Need to explain to your teacher that you can't make the class trip?

Steps

    Get their email address. You can probably find it through the school website, or just ask.

    Sign in to your email account.

    Begin your letter. Start off with something similar to this: "Dear Mrs/Miss/Mr._______"

    Type underneath, " I won't be able to make the trip/lecture,"

    Give your reason. Then, say why you won't be able to come eg. family emergency, sickness etc.

    Finish your letter. End the email off with when you'll be coming back. If you're not coming back say you're not coming back due to this. You may feel you have the courtesy to say something like;" I'm sorry. I enjoyed your class and would like to seek this again in the future". This can be appropriate depending on what your attending, being taught and what type of schooling whether it be college or high school.

    Sign your email. At the end, put "Yours Sincerely,______."

Tips

  • You don't end emails with 'Bye' because when they read it, there is a response that is attended.
  • Do not use text talk such as 'thx' or 'hmwrk'
  • Keep things formal - use 'dear..' instead of 'hi/ hello' and 'kind regards/ yours sincerely' instead of 'bye'

Warnings

  • Don't use smilies or emoticons. Teachers won't approve.
  • Don't put kisses or hugs at the end. That looks too informal.
