How to Tell if Something's Spoiled

Steps

    Sniff it. Think about the normal smell of it, and if it smells really bad or unusual, throw it out. If it smells okay, it should be okay. If it smells normal, congratulations.

    Look for white, green, or black splotches. This is called mold. Mold forms when something becomes old and rotten. If there is mold, try not to touch it and dispose of it immediately.

    Seek the package for some numbers. Everything has a date on it. It's usually on the top of the package, so look there. If it's only a day or two ago, that should mean it should be okay. It should look a little like this: (ex. 12/3/11 for December 3, 2011).

    Reuse okay-looking foods. Dogs eat about anything they can get their paws on, and cats will eat any meat, and pigs love everything that isn't poisonous. Animals won't care if it's spoiled or not, as long as it won't harm them in any way. You can give them some food and illuminate waste on Earth.

  • The date may be small.
