If you would like to try to teach volleyball skills to children who want to love and cherish volleyball as much as you do, (assuming since you are asking this question)then read on!

Method 1
Bumping

    Show them how to place their hands. So have them place one hand flat, place their other hand underneath that hand, and curl their thumb so it's kind of in the middle of his/her palm.

    Next, find a very open area such as a volleyball court in a gym or just right outside away from buildings and cars and other things that could easily dent or break (just in case).

    Stand only a few feet apart, 5 at the most, then tell him/her to squat halfway in the air just like a chair.

    Throw the ball at their arms where they should hit it until they get used to the feel of the ball hitting where it's supposed to, then you can start moving around and making fun games out of it.

Method 2
Setting

    When setting, show them how to place their arms and such, (both hands hovering over forehead thumbs and pointer fingers shaping a triangle).

    Stand over him/her fairly close, and hold the ball right above their forehead, drop it in the "square" and have them keep their elbows in and push the ball upwards keeping their arms as straight as possible still in the chair position.

Tips

  • If they want to try spiking, you may let them try, but don't try to teach them if they are only 5-9.
