wikiHow to Survive High School Orientation
Many high schools have freshmen orientations in the summer, before school starts. In these orientations, students typically get their schedule, locker number, and get their picture taken. They might even meet teachers and get textbooks. While this article regards freshmen orientation, if you are a sophomore, junior or senior attending an orientation, this article will help you too!
Steps
- 1Have everything ready beforehand. Know what time and what day the orientation is on. Know who will drive you there and pick you up. Will parents need to be present at the orientation? Approximately how many hours will it take? Set aside about one to one and a half hours extra to locate your classrooms.
- 2To minimize morning stress, set aside your clothes, along with your hair-brush, any make-up you may need like perfume, lotion, foundation cream, eye-shadow, and lip-gloss in the bathroom. It is your choice whether to shower that night or the morning after, just remember to wake up earlier if you choose to shower in the morning. Get to bed early that night, because the next day is critical. Read if you are not tired.
- 3The next morning, wake up early enough so that you are not rushed. Brush your teeth, wash your face, and shower if you have not done so the night before. Then brush your hair, wear make-up if you desire to, and eat breakfast. Then use mouthwash, and you are ready! Dress neatly, as you may meet new people and first impressions last.
- 4Take anything you need with you. Generally, a backpack should be taken for textbooks, along with a folder for important materials.
- 5Follow all directions and listen carefully in the orientation. Take notes if you need to. Remember that you can socialize with friends anytime, but this information you are getting is crucial to your success for the next four years.
- 6Wait in line and request your schedule, telling the people in charge your name. Then look at all the courses you are taking. Most likely there will be a sheet containing information on what courses require which books-write down the names of the books you need.
- 7Stand in line for getting your picture taken. Once you get your ID card, check out textbooks. Make sure that you have everything you need.
- 8If you must, then meet your teachers. Again, the key is to listen carefully to what they are saying. Ask questions at the end. Remember to always be attentive.
Tips
- A positive attitude is a must.
