How to Sew a Simple Doll Scarf

Want to keep your doll nice and toasty this winter? Here's a simple scarf for an American Girl Doll or My Twin Doll.

    Collect the things you'll need. They are listed below.

    Cut a strip of fabric approximately 5 inches (12.7 cm) by 23 inches (58.4 cm).

    On the 5 inch (12.7 cm) side, fold down 1/2 an inch to 1/4 an inch to the inside, thus enclosing the raw edge. Fold in half longways so that the wrong sides are together. Sew down the side that is now approximately 25 inches (12.7 cm). Repeat on other side.
    • For an alternative, you could make a double sided scarf by cutting 2 pieces of 3 inch (7.6 cm) by 23 inches (58.4 cm) and replacing this step with a repetition of the next step.

    On the open long side, fold in approximately 1/2 to 1/4 an inch. Run a sew down this edge.

    Run a stitch down the only edge without stitches, no folding required.

  • If you have a smaller or larger dolls, try playing with the measurements to help it fit them better.
  • Make many for all of your dolls.
  • Use patterns that fit your doll's personality.
  • Try adding fringe, embroidery, or beads for a cool look.


  • Be careful with sharp needles and scissors.
  • Ask a parent for permission before cutting up any fabrics.
  • Make sure you use thin fabrics as thick fabrics such as fleece can cause difficulty or malfunctioning of your sewing machine.
  • Don't try to make one for yourself, you will not be kept warm.
