How to Remove the Damp Smell from Books Using Dryer Sheets

If you have a book that has damp smells, you can use dryer sheets to improve it.

Steps

    Keep all your used dryer sheets and cut them in half. Do not use unused ones because they will still have oil in them and that will stain the pages.

    Take the book and open it up close to the cover. Don't do this too close, though. Put one of the halves of the dryer sheet there. Then open the book up close to the end, but not too close ,and put the other half there.

    Close the book and put it in either a zipper baggy or a cheap trash bag and seal it up after putting all the books that you have "cleaned" in it.

    Leave the books sealed up undisturbed for about two days.

    Open the bag up and check the books out. If they don't smell better yet, change the sheets and leave them a bit longer like four days.

    When the books smell better, take the sheets out and put them back on the shelf. Make sure they won't get damp anymore.

Tips

  • If you leave the sheets in there, it will help but you need to address the reason as to why the books got damp in the first place.
  • Test this on a book that is not too important.

Warnings

  • If you use unused sheets, these will stain and if they were used on a low setting in the dryer, they may still stain.
