How to Read Names in Foreign Alphabets

Sometimes we meet expats who friend me on Facebook and have names containing foreign alphabets like Polish, Czech, Russian, and others. Follow these simple steps to be able to read foreign names correctly.

Steps

    Go to translate.google.com and copy paste their name in the left side box. Then set the translation options as follows:
    • From: the country the name you are trying to read originates from, or simply set it as " Detect language ".

    • To: The same language.

    Once translated, click on the small speaker button under the translated word, and Google will read the name for you.

    Play it over and over again until you get it right, then write it down phonetically using your own alphabet.

Warnings

  • No translator software is 100% capable of translating correctly the exact word so be aware.
  • Do not mess with people's name. You only get one chance to make a good impression with new people, getting their names right is one of the most important factors in this process so be careful as sometimes the translators give wrong translations.
