School always gets harder as grades rise, but don't let that stop you from doing your best. Instead, why not prepare for school in advance!
Steps
Part 1 Before Summer Break Starts
- 1Read. Your chances of having summer reading projects might increase in each grade you advance in. Make sure to read your summer books. You might be tested on them!
- 2Join your school's Summer Reading Program, if there is one. Chances are, for the people that complete them, you'll have extra points on their grade starting out.
- 3Study. It might seem boring, but studying can help you stay head of the game, and refresh your mind on subjects.
Part 2 Start of Summer Break
- 1Relax. That's the main reason of summer break! Relax and recharge. Summer will go by faster than you think!
- 2Sleep an extra hour, or so. You won't have to wake up at the crack of dawn to catch the bus, so make up a couple of much needed hours of sleep.
- 3Read. Go on and get your summer reading over with. You won't be cramming the week before, if you do it now.
- 4Go on bike rides, or go walking. The days are longer now, so you have more sunlight to do more outdoor things.
Part 3 Halfway Into Summer Break
- 1Begin to wake up the time you need to get up for school. Go on and get into the pattern, so you won't be as slouchy, Monday morning.
- 2Study. If you didn't study now, you probably should, at this point. You're about halfway through your summer break and it's time to look towards school.
- 3Finish summer reading. You should have completed this by now. If not, finish it up.
Part 4 3 Weeks Left of Summer Break
- 1Buy school clothing, school supplies, and any other school items you need. If you wait until the week before, everybody will be out there and take most of the items.
- 2Figure out your teachers and classes, and your friend's teachers and classes. If they have the same classes as you, you might be able to walk together.
- 3Decide your main mode of transportation for the year. If your school is far away, take the bus or get your parents to drive you. If it's close, walk to school, or take your bike, if your school allows it.
- 4Study as much as possible. Your teachers will have expected you to have studied over the summer.
Part 5 The Last Week Before School Starts
- 1Go to the open house meeting. That's where you can figure out bus routes, meet your new teachers, and see the layout of the school. Take advantage of it.
- 2Double check over your school supply list and have your clothing ironed, washed, and dried. You want to make a great first impression on your teachers.
- 3Enforce your sleeping schedule. Go to bed on time to get your body prepared on sleeping early again.
Part 6 The Last Day of Summer Break
- 1Go to bed early.
- 2Set out your school clothing for the next day.
- 3Pack your book-bag, so in the morning you can just pick it up and go.
- 4Call your friends and decide on where you guys will meet. You don't want to walk by yourself!
- 5Relax a bit! Don't be too worried about summer ending. Just think about the good times you had, and you will surely relax.
Part 7 The First Day of School
- 1Be nice and friendly to everybody you see. The things you do on the first day determine what everybody thinks about you for the rest of the year.
- 2Memorize the school. Figure out the nearest bathrooms and water fountains. See what your locker is near, and that can be your landmark. Remember how long it takes in between class changes.
Tips
- Get your school clothing and school supplies a couple of weeks before the week of the first day of school. You might miss out on the sales, but you'll beat the crowds.
- If you go on and get your summer reading out of the way, you can relax for the rest of the summer.
- Keep some papers or handout at the end of the year and review them before going back to school in the summer. You'll start right where you left off.
Warnings
- A BIG mistake several people do is to sleep non-stop. Sure, it's relaxing, but it makes sleeping on time harder.
