How to Prepare for a Trip

People go on trips all the time whether they are traveling across the country, to a different one, or for a few hours. This will show you how to prepare for a trip so that it goes as smoothly as possible.

Pack your suitcase with only the necessary items. When packing your suitcase remember this. "Less is more." If you pack basically everything you own thinking you will need it you will be adding too much weight to your bag. You also want to lessen the chances of losing stuff while on vacation.
    • Only pack what you'll absolutely need. If you're going to the beach or will be staying in a hotel with a pool pack two bathing suits, sunscreen, 1-2 towels, a hat, and sunglasses. If you are going somewhere for just a weekend pack 3 shirts, 3 pairs of pants/shorts, 4 bras (if you're a girl), 4-5 pairs of underwear, and pads (once again- if you're a dude this does not apply to you). If you're going somewhere for a week maybe double this amount. If you're going somewhere for a month or more do the math.

Research the place that you're staying/going to see what the climate is like and what things you can do there.
    • If it is only a matter of a few days between booking and travel date, research the upcoming weather for the location.

Purchase a passport, if you plan on leaving the country.

Prepare/Pack your carry on item. In your carry on take your cell phone, charger, iPod, book, journal, whatever. Also bring headphones and some cash.

Study the language that you may be heading to, if you get to learn that they speak a different language. If you're going somewhere where people speak a different language than you make sure you know the language at least a little or else it will turn into an awkward situation.

Try not to fight with people on your trip. It will not be very fun if you do and you want this trip to go as smoothly as possible, right?

  • most importantly...have fun!!
  • Bring a camera to capture memories.
  • A jacket/hat/etc. combo is good for the cold or rain.
  • A compass and map are always helpful!
  • Because of biting bugs make sure you pack bug spray.
  • Don't give in to road rage.
  • Be prepared! That's the Boy Scout motto.
  • Pack the necessities only! You don't want to pack too much to where you have no room left for the trip.
  • Follow the speed limit.
  • If you plan on travelling for a trip that you'll require a suitcase for, plan on packing throw-away items/disposable items as much as you can. if you planned on throwing away a pair of underwear before you left, plan on bringing it. You may be able to wear them one more time, and be able to throw them out there. It'll save you space for souvenirs, and will still be able to pack as a beneficial travel item at start.
  • Don't feel obligated to bring back souvenirs.
  • If you are camping be careful with how you pack food and stuff.
  • Bring flip flops/sneakers, but only bring one pair per!
  • Make sure people know where you're going to be at all times.

  • Make sure you don't leave stuff at gas stations or hotels, etc.
