How to Personalize Stationery

Ever wanted to have fancy personalized paper to show off to your friends? You can order it, or you can make your own and have it truly personal.

Use a computer and printer. Add pictures, borders, your monogram or return address, signatures, or clip art. Print out one copy to make sure you like the way it looks
    • If you want it to look less like it came out of a printer, print two half sheets to a page and cut them apart with a paper cutter.
    • Try to use vector artwork. Arrange your stationery in a program like Inkscape. Print at a high enough resolution, and you should not see pixels in the final result.

Draw your own pictures or personalization. Write your signature at the bottom and your name and address at the top, write your favorite lyrics, or draw pets or cute animals.

Use rubber stamps or stickers. If you lack the time or think you lack the talent for doing your own art, use stamps or stickers to add color to your stationery.

Write on origami paper. You can use it simply for the color, or you can fold it into an interesting shape. Don't get too fancy with your folds, though. Don't make your recipient have to dismantle a masterpiece to get to your letter.

Cut up magazines or newspapers, and decorate a corner of your stationery with a simple collage.

Write a letter. Even on a plain page, there is nothing more personal than a handwritten letter. You need not worry about decorations if your words can say what you want.

  • Choose any design you like.
  • Try to be as neat as possible if drawing or coloring.
  • Be as creative, but balance time spent decorating with your use of the stationery.
  • If you do end up with a great work of art, offer it alongside a letter on a plain page.
