How to Pack for an Overnight Kayak Trip

Have you ever been on a Kayak on a camping trip? If you haven't, you are missing an opportunity to have so much fun! Kayaking allows you get to explore nature with the added benefits of having fun with your family and/or friends. This guide will help you to prepare for that special Kayaking camping trip.

    Be sure to bring a sleeping bag; you need to have a comfortable area to sleep in.

    Bring a boat. You can't go Kayaking without a boat.

    Bring a water jug. Depending on how long you are camping will determine how large of a water jug you will need, it is very important that you do not drink or refill your water jug at the lake where you are Kayaking. The lake water contains bacteria and other contaminants that can be a danger not only to your health but that of your your friends and family. This is why you should not drink the water from the lake, so be sure to bring more than one water jug if you have to.

    Bring some extra food in case (if you're bringing people); they want to have some.

    Bring clothes, pajamas, like you would on a sleepover, but a sleepover with nature.

    Bring a tent- you need protection.

    Bring a toothbrush, your teeth are important. To brush your teeth, you will obviously need toothpaste.

    Bring towels. Bring 2 small ones and a big one. One for your hair (if you have a lot of hair), another one for extra needs (a just-in-case washcloth). A big one is to dry off your whole body!

    Bring a flashlight. When you're out in the dark, it can be scary and you never know what is out there. Bring lots of extra batteries.

    Bring a book or magazine to entertain yourself. If you're coming with other people, they can entertain you as well.

    Bring bug spray!! You don't want to get bitten by mosquitoes on your trip. A popular bug spray is "off." Get the clip on so you won't fuss with spraying it in your eyes!

Tips

  • You shouldn't bring any electronics, they will either get lost or broken.
  • Keep watch for snakes and other dangerous animals.
  • Bring a first-aid kit, just in case.

Warnings

  • Some wild animals: snakes, alligators, bears, etc. could bite you.
  • Water sometimes has many varieties of bacteria so make sure to not swallow any and wash soon after getting out.
