How to Pack for a Two Day Trip

No matter how short a trip is, proper packing is one of the things that should be taken into consideration. You do not want to overpack and bring too much of things that you wouldn't need, and on the other hand, you do not want to under-pack and fail to bring your essentials. If you're going on a two-day trip and are not sure how to pack, this article can provide you with a few pointers.

    Check the weather at your destination. You can do research on weather websites to have an idea of how the weather would be like during the time that you would be at your destination. Colder climates would necessitate you to pack heavier clothes that would keep you warm, such as jackets, sweaters and coats. Warmer, tropical climates would allow you to bring lighter articles of clothing, such as dresses and tank tops.

    List the activities that you would be doing at your destination. Certain activities would entail you to pack additional items in your luggage. For instance, swimming would entail you to pack swimwear and slippers, and hiking would entail you to pack socks and a good pair of walking shoes.

    Decide on your luggage. Since you are only going on a two-day trip, a smaller luggage would be ideal. Some good options are a backpack or Tourists mostly get over excited about the upcoming trips that often forget important things that need to be brought in a trip. Here are some tips and things you will need:
    • Domestic Airline Ticket. It may seem noticeable yet most of the time when you’re in a hurry you may overlook your airline ticket. Make sure you have it when your leave for the airport
    • Money, Wallet, Cash, Credit Cards, ATM cards. Nothing is for free in this world, no matter where you go, so you will definitely need these.
    • Cell phone, Blackberry, iphone, laptop, etc. - handle your phones cautiously
    • Sunglasses and Sun lotion, depending on destination.
    • Medicines and Toiletries- Keep medicines and toiletries in your checked luggage due to tightened airline security.
    • Soap
    • Shampoos & Conditioner
    • Lotion
    • Toothbrush & Toothpaste
    • Make-up kit (if desired)
    • Pack a towel/washcloth
    • Insect/mosquito repellent
    • Sewing kit with scissors, tweezers, and needle. (Note: You will need to pack sharp objects in checked baggage due to tightened airline security.)
    • Aspirin or Tylenol Band-Aids and betadine ointment
    • Throat lozenges and cough medicine
    • Cold medicine and antihistamines
    • Basic clothes:
      • 3-4 T-shirts or blouses (Depending on your desire to wash)
      • 2-3 pants
      • 3-5 sets of underwear
      • Long-sleeved shirts/jacket
      • Skirts, dresses or loose pants for women
      • Good walking shoes
      • Slippers
      • 2-3 pairs of socks
    • Bathing suits
    • Wide brimmed sun hat (only if it's hot where you're going)
    • For colder climates, like skiing in the mountains, you'll need:
      • Winter jacket
      • Snow pants
      • Mitts/gloves
      • Toque(Hat)
      • Scarves
      • Winter boots
    • Camera
    • MP3/MP4 or iPod
    • Pen & notepad (if necessary)
    • Favorite books
    • Bible & Devotion Book (if necessary)


  • If you like to take pictures, pack a camera.
  • Another great tip is to write every thing down before you pack it all to create a checklist and that will make you sure you have everything. Put a note on your door telling you to remember your toothbrush as well, because you need to brush your teeth in the morning before you leave!
  • Make sure that any medications are easy to access -- in your carry-on or in a purse or pouch you can reach easily in the car.
  • Bring something to entertain you.
  • Buy travel-sized toiletries for your trip, so you can easily dispose of them after your trip and save space in your luggage.
