How to Pack a Bag with Essential Travel Items

You never know when you're going to need it: the perfectly packed overnight bag. You may be staying away from home unexpectedly. Maybe it's because you want to, or perhaps it's because you need to-but either way, it sure helps to be prepared with a bag stocked with the essentials.

    Procure the right sized bag. It needn't be a big expense, either.

    Pack two sets of undergarments and socks. Why two? Just trust me.

    Pack an ensemble that is season-less and won't wrinkle easily. Guys and gals would both do well with khakis and a pullover. Roll up the garments instead of folding to prevent wrinkling.

    Tuck in a toiletry bag filled with toothbrush, razor, travel-sized soap,shampoo,and shaving cream, toothpaste,mouthwash, and aspirin.

    Squeeze in a small pillow or neck roll. This may seem excessive but it can mean the difference between tossing and turning and getting a decent night's sleep. If your bag can accommodate a small 'throw' blanket, pack that too.

    Put in an energy bar and a bottled water along with a vitamin packet like Emergen-C, or a few Airborne tablets.

    Add a tag with your emergency contact information.

Tips

  • Stash the bag in your trunk... and never be unprepared to again! An important footnote:Once you've had occasion to use your Perfectly Packed Overnight Bag, don't forget to re-stock it for next time. Even if the odds are slim that you'll have to use it, it's a good idea to have an already prepared second bag to use while you're doing so, just in case.
