How to Organize Kitchen Shelves

Keeping your shelves organized will help you be efficient in your kitchen. You will be able to find what you need and up less frustrated. You can spend more time enjoying your kitchen instead of hunting for things.

Method 1
Sort Through Your Cabinets

    Take everything out of your cabinets and sort into three piles: give away, daily use, and occasional use. If you haven’t used something in a long time, it should probably be given away.

    Clean out the shelves with a cloth and warm soapy water.

    Remove old contact paper or shelf liner if you use it. Put new paper or liner in place.

Method 2
Put Your Dishes Away

    Put dishes that you use on a regular basis within easy reach.

    Organize these items by type. Glassware should go together, plates in another cabinet, and other items together.

    Place all items in an organized fashion back inside the cabinet. Pretend your doors are made of glass and you can see inside; this will encourage you to stack things neatly.

    Stack mixing bowls inside each other by size. Place all cooking and baking ware together close to the stove or where you will fix your meals.

Tips

  • Place heavier items on lower shelves so you don’t injure yourself when reaching for them.
  • Buy wicker baskets or other pretty storage containers to hold your small items.
  • Make a plan to go through your shelves at least once a year to reorganize and remove anything that isn’t being used.
