How to Organize Computer Wires
Don't you wish that you could finally organize all the wires and cables that are behind your desk? All you have to do is follow this guide, and be messy no more!
Steps
- 1Push your desk out so that you have enough working space.
- 2Turn off your power supply.
- 3Unplug the electrical wires you plan to organize.
- 4Tape the wires together with your electrical tape, hook and loop cable straps, or zip ties (for a more permanent wiring job).
- Group together wires that share the same device/type (i.e. Audio with Audio or Monitor Video w/ Monitor Power, etc).
- Tape/tie/strap the cables every couple of inches.
- Don't give the wires too much slack.
- 5Push your desk back to the wall.
- 6Plug your components back in and turn on the power.
Tips
- Don't use scotch tape with this, it won't hold as good as electrical tape and it's annoying to work with for some store brands.
- Try to tape all the wires together with two or more wraps around the group of wires.
- When it's time to branch off the wires, or even just one wire from the rest of the group (i.e. Monitor Power > Outlet.), make a "wire highway" on/off ramp, and another tip with the off ramp is that you should tape right at the "off-ramp."
Warnings
- Don't forget to turn the power off.
Things You'll Need
- A (pocket) knife and/or scissors
- Electrical Tape or cable combiner of your choice
