How to Organise Your Schoolwork

Whether you are good at actually doing the work, or you're behind with your homework, if you are failing in classes, or just about holding your own or if your backpack looks as if it's going to explode and your desk looks like an indoor grenade range, your schoolwork will almost certainly benefit, as will you, if it's more organized. This article has some simple steps, and some more detailed one's, you can take to get everything schoolwork related organised. Get started at step number one below.

Steps

    1
Realize what an issue disorganized schoolwork is. This is a problem and that you want to fix it. You are reading this now, so that's a big step forward. It means you want to fix this yourself, not because one of your parents is forcing you to.

    2
Open up your backpack, school bag or book bag and take everything out. Yes, every scrap of paper, and everything else, including your week-old lunch.

    3
Clean. Take a small, clean cloth and simply brush off dust from the bottom and ends of your backpack or bag. Turn it inside out if you can to get rid of all the crumbs, dirt or whatever else has gathered in there.

Throw your week-old lunches in the trash. If you have any pieces of paper left in the backpack, take them out and recycle them. If they are important notes keep them or copy them on to a separate piece of paper.

Take your school schedule and see what lessons you have. Organise your books in order of the lessons. Don't cram the books inside. Be patient.

    6
Get a lunchbox and keep your lunch in it so it does not get mixed in with your school books. If possible, keep your food and drink in a separate compartment to your school books.

    7
Start studying. Now that you've finished organising your backpack, it's time for studying! Find a neat, clean, fresh, place that you are comfortable in.

    8
Choose a lesson to study (not your weakest subject, start with an easy one that you're good at).

Open the books and begin to read. Active studying is the only way to remember the information. That means taking short notes or key words, highlighting or underlining important sentences. Read it out loud to yourself or make a recording of yourself reading it aloud which you can play back to yourself as part of your revision. Then quiz yourself or ask someone to quiz you.

Study for forty minutes. Take a five minute break then take another lesson to study for forty minutes. Set a timer to motivate yourself.

    11
Take a break to eat something. If you're not that hungry, at least have a glass of water or milk. It will refresh your mind. You can also do about 5 jumping jacks to make that blood flow!
  12. Image titled Organise Your Schoolwork Step 12
    12
Go back to studying. This time, choose a slightly difficult subject like science or geography perhaps and start revising actively.
  13. Image titled Organise Your Schoolwork Step 13
    13
Repeat this everyday and finally come to your weakest subjects. Try your absolute hardest to understand everything. Make out a timetable so that you cover every subject at least twice a week and spend time at all your subjects.

    14
Talk to your teachers. At school ask your teachers about this and that. Question them and make your weakest subject your best subject!

    15
Revise what you learned. That night, after the teachers have explained everything, go over it and give yourself a pop quiz (if you are creative, then make an exam cover with your name written on it for fun).

    16
Do the pop quiz in the same area where you studied. It will help you remember everything. Trust me, it works.

Ask someone to check the results.

Tips

  • Always, always, always start with the easiest subject. The weakest should always come last. It's easier for your brain to handle.
  • You can find some studying tips on the internet.
  • If you are uncomfortable, choose another place to study.
  • Take a break every half hour to eat something. Don't watch TV in your break. Watching cartoons, reality TV or soap operas will take your mind off the work and you will soon forget everything that you learned. Do something relaxing like reading a book and listening to music (don't get caught up into it though).

Warnings

  • Don't study in places like a bowling alley, a restaurant, cafe, etc. You may work at a quiet or non-busy library.
  • Never abandon your studying no matter how much your friends says it's not cool. Education may be boring but its something every living human should do. You should try this, it really works!

  • A clean backpack
  • Your brain!
