How to Open Disk Image (DMG) Files That Are Not Allowed on a Mac
If you've got a disk image file (.dmg) that you want to open but can't because you're not an admin, this workaround can help.
Steps
- 1Download the file.
- 2After it's finish, go to Disk Utility.
- 3Open the .dmg file with the Disk Utility still open. You will see the .dmg file on the left of the Disk Utility screen.
- 4Click the .dmg file (Not the USB as some files have). Click convert on the upper part of Disk Utility.
- 5Rename it to something else to tell the difference between the old and new .dmg file. Example: helloworld becomes workinghelloworld.
- 6Wait for the transfer.
- 7Open the file. After it's finished, you should be able to open the contents in the .dmg file.
