How to Measure for a Lazy Susan

Two Parts:Measuring a Base Corner SpaceMeasuring a Wall Corner Cabinet

“Lazy Susan” is the term for an L-shaped corner cabinet that rotates to help maximize cabinet space. It is extremely useful when incorporated into a kitchen set, either in a base cabinet or a wall cabinet. You must ensure you measure your space properly to order the correct Lazy Susan model.

Part 1
Measuring a Base Corner Space

  1. Image titled Measure for a Lazy Susan Step 1
    1
Find a space at the corner of your kitchen counter, where two walls meet. The Lazy Susan can be at the end of a single counter and cabinet space or it can adjoin two perpendicular rows of cabinets.

    2
Measure the depth of your current cabinetry from the wall to the front of the cabinet with a retractable measuring tape. It is often between 28 and 38 inches (71.1 to 96.5cm) in total.

    3
Assume that the length of the cabinet is equal to the depth, since the Lazy Susan is a square cabinet with a truncated door on the front. The size of the Lazy Susan will be identified by this length.[1]

Choose Lazy Susan rotating shelving that is one size smaller than your cabinet. This may be automatically assumed in some pre-made models. Generally, the shelf for a 33-inch (83.8cm) cabinet would be 28 inches (71.12cm) wide so that it has plenty of clearance.[2]

Go to your local home improvement store or onto a retailer’s website. Find the Lazy Susan base cabinet model that matches your cabinet depth. Then, ensure the hardware is several inches smaller to ensure clearance.

Measuring a Wall Corner Cabinet

Return to your kitchen. View the current wall cabinets, or those that are hung on the wall, rather than resting below your counter.

Use a retractable tape measure to find the depth from the wall to the cabinet. Stretch it along the underside of the cabinet. Then, lock it and read the measurement.

Check the hardware specifications to ensure it is a few inches smaller than the depth of the cabinet. If you are ordering the shelving hardware separately, make sure you order one cabinet size down from your depth measurement.

Order the wall corner cabinet with Lazy Susan according to the depth measurement of the cabinet.[3]
