How to Make Wedding Seat Arrangements

Without arranged seats at a large wedding, guests can feel uncomfortable sitting themselves at the reception. Read on to learn how to avoid this uncomfortable tension so your guests are enjoying themselves!

    Know how many people will sit at each table. At a standard round table, 8 people can sit comfortably. However, if you will not have standard tables at your reception, find out how many can sit per table.

    Keep in touch with your guests. Ask them how their social lives are going. Learn if they have tension with other guests, or ex-partners attending the wedding.

    Write out index cards with each guest's name on them. Spread them out on the floor. Separate guests who will not want to sit together.

    Group guests. Make a pile of guests for each table. Try to group guests with similar interests and personalities, as well as mutual friends.

    Write a master list with the seating arrangements. Use a pencil in case of necessary changes. List each guest under a table, with a number. Sketch the table arrangements for the reception, and write the corresponding guest's number next to each seat.

    Use your list and sketch to place your name-cards on the tables.

Tips

  • It can't hurt to ask your guests if they have somebody they want to sit with at the reception; however, do not promise anything.
  • Ask others to help with prodding into other's social lives.
