How to Make Sweet Ice Tea Syrup

Sweet ice tea syrup is the an easy way to prepare a syrup base for iced tea. It tastes refreshing and uplifting on a hot day.

Ingredients

  • 5 1/2 cups water
  • 1 heaping cup loose leaf tea
  • 3 1/2 cups sugar

Steps

    Bring the water to a rolling boil in a saucepan.

    Remove it from the heat once boiled.

    Add the tea to the hot water. It is very important that you do not stir! Simply immerse the tea gently and let it steep for 10 minutes.

    Pour the sugar into the measure pitcher.

    Strain the tea into the sugar. Stir until the sugar is dissolved.

    Strain the syrup through a metal strainer into pitcher. Cut a piece of nylon from an old pair of clean pantyhose large enough to cover the metal strainer. Place this over the inside of the strainer when pouring the syrup through, as this will remove the tea residue from the syrup.

Things You'll Need

  • 2 qt. saucepan
  • 8 cup measure pitcher
  • 1 cup measuring cup
  • Wooden spoon
  • Colander
  • Metal strainer
  • Pitcher to store syrup in. A 1 1/2 qt Rubbermaid pitcher works well
