How to Make Spicy Steak and Avocado Toast

Spicy steak and avocado toast can make a fantastic breakfast which gets your day off to a great start. Move down to Step 1 to find out how you can make this delicious toast.

Ingredients

  • 2 slices thick sourdough bread
  • 230g (½ lb.) flank steak
  • Olive oil
  • Black pepper
  • Kosher salt
  • 1 large avocado
  • 1 medium onion
  • ½ jalapeño, minced
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 garlic clove
  • Coriander leaves (cilantro)

Steps

    Place the flank steak over a medium high heated pan. Do this until the steak is up to room temperature.

    Turn off the heat. Remove the pan and steak and place the steak on a chopping board.

    Rub the steak with the olive oil. Do this until the steak has absorbed the oil, then sprinkle kosher salt and black pepper on both sides.
    • Make sure you rub in the salt and pepper well.

    Put the pan back on the stove and set the heat to medium high. Carefully place the steak into the pan and let it sear on one side until brown.
    • This should take about four minutes.

    Turn the steak over and let the other side brown. Watch carefully to ensure that this side does not turn black.

    Take the steak out of the pan. Turn the heat off and place the steak on another chopping board. Allow the steak to cool and rest for at least ten minutes.
    • This is so that when you cut the steak, the steak won't bleed. Bleeding is the last thing you want.

    Slice the onion while the steak is resting. Make sure it is thinly and evenly sliced.
    • To prevent crying, try leaving the onion in the refrigerator for ten minutes before slicing it.

    Put the avocado, onion and jalapeno on a small chopping board. Combine the ingredients and drizzle with the lemon juice. Add some kosher salt to taste.

    Smash the ingredients together with a fork. Ensure that everything is well combined and add extra salt if necessary.

    Toast the sourdough bread to a golden color. Drizzle a small amount of olive oil over the crisp toast. Make sure you don't make it soggy. Rub the top of the slices of toast thoroughly with the garlic clove.

    Spread the avocado paste over the slices of toast. Add coriander leaves for a delightfully fresh taste.

    Slice the steak thinly across the grain. Place the slices of steak on each piece of toast.

Tips

  • Slightly stale bread works best for toasting but fresh is fine.
