How to Make Pastitsio

Pastitsio, a Greek main dish made with pasta and hamburg, is a very delicious meal. This recipe is somewhat complicated, so be sure you read through the directions entirely before making it.

  • 1 1/2 lbs. spaghetti
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 cup grated Romano cheese
  • 1 stick melted butter
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 12 medium-sized eggs
  • Enough cooking oil to cover the bottom of the ground beef pan

  1. 1
Preheat your oven to 325ยบ Fahrenheit.
  2. 2
Boil water for the spaghetti. While the water is boiling, put the cooking oil in a frying pan to prep for the ground beef.
  3. 3
Put the pasta in the boiling water. Stir occasionally to avoid the spaghetti sticking.
  4. 4
Add the ground beef once the cooking oil is hot. Be sure to evenly cook the meat to prevent food-born illnesses.
  5. 5
Stir the cinnamon into the cooking beef.
  6. 6
Strain the spaghetti. Pour it back into the pan it was cooked in.
  7. 7
Take the beef off the heat once it has browned evenly.
  8. 8
Beat the eggs in a large bowl.
  9. 9
    Melt the stick of butter.
  10. 10
Mix the butter, grated Romano cheese, and ground beef in with the pasta.
  11. 11
Pour the pasta mixture into the 9x13 inch pan. Drizzle the beaten eggs over the pasta, and cover with foil.
  12. 12
Put the pan into the oven. Bake for 1 1/2 hours; remove the foil in the last 5 minutes. The top should be a light crispy texture and colored golden brown.

  • You can slice the recipe in half, or double it, depending on the number of people being served. Be sure your measurements are correct when you do this.
  • You can flex the amount of cinnamon used a bit, but by no more than 1/4 of a teaspoon.

  • Be absolutely positive the beef is thoroughly cooked.
