How to Make Movie Theatre Popcorn in Your Microwave

This recipe for theatre quality popcorn is too good not to share. Not only does it taste as good as theatre popcorn, but it costs pennies to make and has considerably fewer calories.

  1. 1
You will need the following to make this at home:
  2. 2
    Un-popped popcorn kernels
    • 1 tbsp margarine
    • 1/2 - 1 tsp salt
    • 1 brown paper lunch bag
    • A microwave
  3. 3
Combine ingredients in a small bowl: 1/4 cup of the popcorn kernels, 1 tablespoon (14.8 ml) margarine, 1/2 - 1 tsp salt (depends on your taste).
  4. 4
After all are well blended, place the glob in the bottom of your paper bag. Fold top of paper bag twice. (1 inch each time.)
  5. 5
Place bag in microwave and set for 3 minutes. Press start. (This is the time frame for a microwave with 1000 watts. Apparently microwaves can act differently with different electrical sources too. So, the goal is not to let the kernels burn. Try setting your microwave for at least four minutes the first time. When the popcorn stops popping (pops less than 2-3 pops in a row) it's done. Remember this time frame for next time.)
  6. 6
Now you can remove the bag from the oven.
  7. 7
Pour contents of bag into bowl and enjoy!
