How to Make Meatballs Quickly

Homemade meatballs are tasty to eat but can be time consuming to make. The following tips and recipes will help you celebrate your meatball mania.

Ingredients

Smorgasbord Meatballs

  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 tablespoon minced onion
  • 2/3 cup soft bread crumbs
  • 1 cup water
  • 3/4 pound lean ground beef
  • 1/4 pound lean ground pork
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/2 teaspoon white pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • Butter, melted for frying
  • 1 cup beef consomme, condensed

Italian style meatballs

  • 4 slices white bread, torn into pieces
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper

Method 1
Standard Meatballs

    Select your favorite meatball recipe and follow the directions on how to make up the meatball mixture.

    Place the meatball mixture onto a clean, flat surface. A cutting board is particularly good to use as you will be using a knife to cut the meatballs.

    Flatten the meatball mixture out evenly in a square.

    Cut the meat into squares using a sharp knife.

    Choose whether to leave the meatballs in square shapes or roll them into round shapes. The square "meatballs" are not as pretty but are quicker to make.

    Place the meatballs onto a greased baking sheet. Bake at 400°F or for approximately 30 minutes or until the meatballs test done.

Method 2
Smorgasbord Meatballs

    Add 1 tablespoon butter to a large skillet. Melt the butter.

    Saute the chopped onion in the melted butter until the onion is tender. This should take 1 to 2 minutes.

    Add the breadcrumbs and water to a large mixing bowl. Mix to combine. Let mixture stand 1 to 2 minutes.

    Add the ground beef, ground pork, sauteed onion, salt, allspice, white pepper and sugar to a mixing bowl.

    Turn the mixer to high speed and beat the mixture until light and fluffy. This should take about 10 minutes.

    Shape meatballs following the suggested method. You can also shape the meatballs by dipping two spoons in ice cold water before shaping them into small meatballs. They should look like large marbles.

    Brown the meatballs in the hot butter. Shake the pan often so all sides of the meatballs are evenly browned.

    Add the beef consomme to the skillet. Bring to a boil while stirring vigorously to remove the browned bits of meat in the skillet.

    Cook the beef consomme until thickened, about 10 to 15 minutes.

    Add the meatballs to a pretty serving dish.

Method 3
Italian Style Meatballs

    Add the torn bread to a mixing bowl.

    Pour milk over the torn bread and let stand 5 minutes.

    Add the egg, beef, cheese, basil, oregano, salt and pepper to the meat mixture.

    Shape into meatballs using the suggested quick method.

    Pour your favorite spaghetti sauce into a saucepan.

Tips

  • To prevent your meatballs from falling apart be sure to let the bread and milk soak as long as the recipe suggests.
