How to Make Horse Muffins

Horse muffins are a great treat to give to your horse after a long ride! They also contain some of the key nutrients horses need.


  • 1 1/2 cups of bran
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3/4 cup skimmed milk
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 2 tablespoon corn oil
  • 1 egg, beaten

    Preheat the oven to 400ºF (205º C). Prepare the muffin tin. If you don't have muffin liners, you can grease your tray with butter or oil.

    Get a bowl for the dry ingredients. Stir together the bran, whole wheat flour, baking soda, and baking powder.

    In the other bowl, add all of the wet ingredients. Stir the skimmed milk, molasses, corn oil, and beaten egg.

    Pour the wet ingredients slowly into the bowl of dry ingredients while stirring.

    Transfer the muffin batter to the muffin tin.

    Place the filled muffin tin into the preheated oven for 15 minutes.

    Carefully, using oven mitts, take the muffin tin out of the oven. Place on a wire cooling rack and allow to cool.

    Give the muffins to your horse to enjoy. If you used muffin liners, make sure you take them off before giving the muffins to the horse.


  • To not have clumpy muffins, make sure to not have any flour clumps when combining wet and dry ingredients.


  • Don't overfeed your horse.
