How to Make Guava Pastries

For those who want to bake a simple yet deliciously sweet Caribbean pastry for any family gathering or wedding, Pastel de Guayaba is easy to make and will have people salivating at the thought of taking the second bite!!

  • Pepperidge Farm Puff Pastry Sheets (2 sheets per box)
  • Powdered sugar

  1. 1
Unfold one of the Puff Pastry Sheets. Once unfolded, there will be three sections.
  2. 2
Cut the Guava Paste into squares of about half an inch or to your preference. Each square will be one pastry.
  3. 3
Place two columns of six guava squares each, in each of the three sections for a total of six columns and six rows.
  4. 4
Unfold the second Puff Pastry Sheet and place it above the guava squares like a sandwich.
  5. 5
Using a pizza cutter, cut in between each guava square to form individual sandwich-like squares.
  6. 6
Take each square and pinch the sides using your fingers carefully to close and elongate the pasty edge. (Making sure not to expose the guava!)
  7. 7
Gently press into the sides of the pastry to seal and create a nice looking edge with the end of a fork.
  8. 8
Place each pastry onto a greased baking sheet.
  9. 9
Place in the oven at 350 degrees until golden brown. (Approximately 10 to 15 minutes. Check constantly to make sure they do not burn!)
  10. 10
Let them cool for about 2 minutes, then sprinkle generously with powdered sugar once out of the oven.

  • Oven time can vary depending on the oven type. Check regularly to avoid burning the pastries.
