How to Make Frozen Banana Ice Cream

Blend ripe, frozen banana slices to create soft serve CLEAN frozen dessert similar to ice cream in just five minutes. That's it!

Mix and match additional ingredients to replicate your favorite ice cream flavors. Additional ingredient quantities listed here are based on using one banana and yield a 1/2 cup serving. Multiply the ingredients quantities by the number of bananas you use and/or servings you need: i.e, to use four bananas, multiply the added ingredients by four to get the right ratio.


  • These ingredients aren't needed, but are additional ideas for mix-ins/flavour.
  • Fruit:
    • 1/3 cup chopped frozen strawberries
    • 1 slice frozen mango
    • 1 slice frozen peach
    • 1/3 cup frozen raspberries
    • 2 tablespoons frozen cherries
    • 1 tablespoon raisins
  • Nuts:
    • 2 tablespoons chopped, roasted, unsalted pistachios
    • 2 tablespoons toasted pecans
  • Everything else:
    • 1 1/2 teaspoons peanut butter
    • 1 1/2 teaspoons cocoa powder
    • 2 teaspoons chocolate hazelnut spread (such as Nutella)
    • 1 tablespoon almond butter
    • 1 tablespoon apple butter
    • 1 tablespoon applesauce
    • 1 tablespoon vegan chocolate fudge sauce (dates, almond milk and cocoa powder)
    • 2 tablespoons dark chocolate chips
    • 1/3 teaspoon cinnamon
    • 3/4 teaspoon instant coffee
    • 1 teaspoon raw honey
    • 1 teaspoon unsweetened coconut flakes
    • 1 drop of vanilla extract
    • 1 drop of peppermint oil

    Peel ripe banana(s) and cut into 1/2" slices. Put in the freezer for at least 1 - 2 hours.

    Pulse frozen banana slices in food processor 10-15 times, and then blend for a few minutes until smooth.

    Add an ingredient, or two or three (optional). Blend. Serve immediately or refreeze for firmer frozen dessert.

    Top with chopped peanuts, cinnamon, shaved dark chocolate or other items from the Additional Ingredients list.


  • Use a super powerful blender or food processor.
  • Keep a ziplock bag of ripe banana slices in the freezer to use in smoothies too!
  • Store ice cream in the freezer up to a day or two later.
