How to Make Dutch Coffee

Dutch coffee is an alcohol-based coffee ideal for after-dinner or as a pick-me-up. It's based on Advocaat liqueur and strong coffee.

Ingredients

Serves 4:

  • 150ml/ 1/4 pint cream suitable for whipping
  • 160ml/ 1/3 pint Advocaat liqueur
  • 800ml/ 1 pint 8 fl oz strong black coffee, hot
  • Sugar to taste
  • Instant coffee powder (for dusting)
  • Cocoa powder (for dusting)

Steps

    Whip the cream until stiff. If the hot coffee isn't already made, do so now.

    Pour the Advocaat evenly into four warmed glasses.

    Sweeten the hot coffee. Add sugar to taste.

    Pour the sweetened hot coffee into the glasses. Again, divide into even amounts.

    Top each glass with whipped cream. Aim to make a small peak.

    Dust the top of the drink and whipped chocolate. Dust with even amounts of instant coffee powder and cocoa powder.

    Serve immediately. Provide long-handled spoons for stirring and lifting out the whipped cream.
