How to Make Curried Walnuts

Walnuts are delicious when curried; the curry adds a new dimension to their already enjoyable flavor. If you can, use fresh walnuts for the best results.

Ingredients

  • Walnuts, shelled and halved
  • Hot water
  • Butter for tossing
  • 1/2 tsp curry powder
  • 1 tsp salt

    Preheat the oven to 350ºF/180ºC.

    Place the walnut halves into a saucepan of boiling water. Boil for 3 minutes.

    Remove from the heat. Drain the water and catch the walnuts in a colander or sieve.

    Arrange the boiled walnuts on a baking dish or sheet covered by parchment paper. Place in the oven to bake for 15–30 minutes, or until they start turning brown. It is important to keep an eye on the baking process.

    Prepare the curry mixture while the walnuts are baking. In a small bowl, mix the curry powder and salt together.

    Remove from the oven. Toss the walnuts in a bowl with a little butter. Alternately, brush each one with melted butter, using a pastry brush.
