How to Make Cosplay Without Sewing
Three Methods:Choosing A CharacterShoppingMaking Adjustments
Do you want to know how to make a Cosplay costume (or any sort of costume) without sewing? Well it's simple! Whether you don't have a sewing machine or just don't have enough time to sew a costume then listen to these steps!
Steps
Method 1 Choosing A Character
- 1Don't choose a character with tons of different patterns or weird articles of clothing that you know you won't be able to find in a store
- 2Choose a bunch of characters you like then go to your mall or Walmart to see if they have similar things to the characters clothes. Example:
- If you're cosplaying as Hatsune Miku, you could cut off the sleeves to a grey dress shirt
- If you go as Nazzy (ed edd n eddy) it's as simple as a black shirt, white tank top, and baggy jeans
- If you go as a humanized pony it's as simple as picking out clothes with the same colour as your character.
- 3Don't be alarmed if you don't have similar hair as the character, wigs aren't that expensive.
Method 2 Shopping
Now it's time to shop for clothes!
- 1Write down the amount of money you want and have to spend. You don't want to be broke over one costume.
- 2Even if the piece of clothing doesn't look exactly like the character's then it's alright, buy it and make adjustments to it when you get home.
- 3Bring a picture of the character with you so you know the length, shape, and colour of the clothes.
- 4If you're having trouble looking for the clothes, don't be scared to ask for help looking for it.
Method 3 Making Adjustments
- 1Do not use glue when you add things to your costume, use a needle and thread to sew it on.
- Use glue if its impossible to sew it on, but use a hot glue gun.
- 2When cutting off chunks of the clothes, make sure to get a friend or family member to sew the ends so it doesn't fray.
- 3Do not use paper or plastic (Unless that's what you want the character to have) when adding things onto the clothing, use fabric or ribbon.
- 4If you don't have all the parts for your costume then it's OK to buy a piece of the clothing from online.
Tips
- When you're done making your costume look up pictures of the character and compare your costume to make sure you didn't miss anything
- Wash the clothes before adding it to your costume if you got it from a thrift store
- If you don't like the way the costume looks, it's fine. You'll get better the more you make costumes.
- Wash your costume before wearing it to a convention
- Although it's tempting, Hot Topic and Spencer's isn't the best place to shop for Cosplay stuff
Warnings
- Don't brag about how you made your costume yourself
- Check out the reviews for an online store before buying a their wigs
- Make sure the colours are similar to the costume
- It won't be as good as professionally made bought costumes, don't worry though!
