How to Make Concentrated Coffee Extract

Concentrated coffee extract can be used in a number of ways such as for making cocktails, baking cakes and other baked goods, and as a part of coffee drinks. It's easy to make on your own at home.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450g) freshly ground coffee
  • 2 pints (1 litre) cold water

Steps

    Pour the ground coffee into a large bowl. Pour water over the top.

    Let the mixture stand for 12 to 24 hours.

    Stir every 4 hours to allow the coffee to release its essence into the water.

    Strain the liquid through a fine sieve.

    Pour the strained liquid into ice cube trays. Place in the freezer.

    Use the cubes as needed for recipes and drinks requiring concentrated coffee extract.

Tips

  • If you need to cover the bowl to prevent insects or unwanted contaminants from entering, use an overturned plate or cloth such as a tea towel or muslin.
