How to Make Buttercream Fondant

Want a fancy, no hassle cake for a great party? This recipe is great to cover your cakes with!

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons and 1-3/4 teaspoons light corn syrup
  • 3 tablespoons and 1-3/4 teaspoons shortening
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon clear vanilla extract
  • 7 ounces confectioners' sugar

    In a large bowl, stir together the shortening and corn syrup.

    Mix in the salt and vanilla flavoring, then gradually mix in the confectioners' sugar until it is a stiff dough. If you are using a stand mixer, use the dough hook attachment.

    To use, roll out on a clean surface that has been dusted with confectioners' sugar until it is 18 inch (0.3 cm) thick or thinner if you can.

Tips

  • Transfer to cake very quickly to avoid cracking.
  • Mix in food coloring for color.
  • A Kitchen Aid mixer is the best mixing item.

Warnings

  • Can tear very easily so be careful.
  • Very sugary, do not eat by itself ONLY ON CAKE!
