How to Make Bunny Brownies

Two Methods:Making the bunny brownie gift jarMaking bunny brownies

Bunny brownies are a treat to enjoy at Easter time or during spring. They can even be put together in a jar for a gift if wished, and both the instructions for this and the recipe have been included.

  • 1 1/4 cups pastel M&Ms (or similar pale candies)
  • 5-6 marshmallow bunny shapes––should be available anywhere Easter is celebrated but look online if not; they are known as "peeps" in North America
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1 package graham crackers (sweet, plain tea-type biscuits), processed into crumbs
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract/essence

  1. 1
If you are making this as a gift, follow the first section to begin with. If not, skip this section and go straight to the second section.

Method 1
Making the bunny brownie gift jar

  1. 1
Assemble both the ingredients and supplies needed. See below under "Things You'll Need" as well as above.
  2. 2
Pour the M&Ms into the jar.
  3. 3
Arrange the marshmallow bunnies or peeps standing up around the jar on top of the M&Ms.
  4. 4
Pour the sugar into a sealed bag. Stuff inside the round of bunnies.
  5. 5
Turn the crackers into crumbs if you haven't already done so. Pour into a bag and squash this bag into the top of the jar.
  6. 6
Seal the jar by screwing or shutting the lid in place.
  7. 7
Label and add instructions. The label should simply state "Bunny Brownies". You might like to add "from XX to XX" and date it (for example, Easter 2012) to help the recipient know how old the ingredients are if they stuff it at the back of the pantry! Add the instructions to the jar on a tag or card (simply use the relevant parts of the instructions in the next section).

Method 2
Making bunny brownies

  1. 1
Preheat the oven to 350ºF/180ºC. Grease or line a square brownie pan.
  2. 2
Pour the contents of the jar into a medium mixing bowl. If making from here without the jar, pour the ingredients from the pastel M&Ms to the crushed graham crackers into the bowl.
  3. 3
Pull out the marshmallow bunny shapes (peeps). Using kitchen shears/scissors that have been dipped in water, cut the bunnies into little pieces. It helps when cutting marshmallow to keep dipping the cutting implement into the cold water, as this prevents the shears or scissors from sticking.
  4. 4
Add the cut-up bunny pieces to the bowl. Mix them through the ingredients in the bowl.
  5. 5
Pour in a 1/2 cup of melted butter and 1 teaspoon of vanilla. Mix well.
  6. 6
Pour the bunny brownie batter into the prepared pan.
  7. 7
Add to the oven. Bake for 15 minutes.
  8. 8
Remove. Allow to cool on a wire cooling rack. Once cooled, cut into 9-12 brownie squares or slices.

  • If you don't want to give the gift jar option, make the brownies and give them already made. This might be a better option for a friend who is too busy to bake or doesn't like baking much.
