How to Make Barley Porridge

Oats are not the only source of making porridge; barley can make an excellent porridge, too.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup pearl barley
  • 5 cups of water to boil
  • 1 teaspoon salt (optional)

Steps

    Bring the water to a boil in a saucepan. Wash the pearl barley if you haven't already done so.

    Add the cup of pearl barley to the boiling water. Add the salt if using.

    Simmer for 1 to 3 hours. The consistency needs to turn to porridge. Top up the water as needed and stir now and then.

    Remove from the heat. Serve. It can be served as is or be accompanied by stewed fruit, fresh fruit slices and berries, cream or lemon sauce.
